How to Find and Beat Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

The first monster you properly fight in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Chatacabra, and honestly, it’s a cakewalk. This toad is no trouble at all. Even when you get to Frenzied or Tempered versions of foes, it’s an easy hunt in the game. Still, here’s how to beat this baddie.

Monster Hunter Wilds:  Find and Beat Chatacabra

• Location: You’re most likely to find the Chatacabra in the Windward Plains. It’s an incredibly common spawn there.

• Rare Spawn: There might be a rare Wounded Hollow appearance, but don’t count on it.

• Time of Appearance: It can show up during the day or night in any season.

• Quests: The Chatacabra is also the target for the Optional Quest “A Futile Fight,” which you unlock after beating it.

How to Beat the Chatacabra

The Chatacabra is a tutorial monster and is susceptible to all types of damage. Here's how to approach the fight:

• Damage Types: Whether you use a weapon that deals blunt, slashing, or shot damage, it’ll hurt the Chatacabra.

• Weak Points: Attack from the front or aim for its head from the side. Its tongue and forelegs are both weak, and the tongue can even be broken.

• Elemental Attacks: Using ice or thunder element attacks on its tongue and forelegs will be extra effective.

• Attack Patterns: Expect lots of leaping and tongue attacks, as well as swipes with its front forearms.

• Traps and Status Effects: Flash Pods, Pitfall Traps, or Shock Traps work well. You can also poison, paralyze, and stun it fairly easily.

Chatacabra Drops in Monster Hunter Wilds

• Certificate: You get a Chatacabra Certificate for beating the monster, which you need for its armor and such.

• Common Drops: Chatacabra Shells are very common and you’re guaranteed one if you break its forelegs.

• Rare Parts: The Chatacabra Jaw is one of the rarer parts, but you may get one from carving up the carcass. You can also get Chatacabra Hides and Scales, which are only slightly uncommon.

To craft a full set of armor, you need to fight until you get at least three jaws for the Chatacabra Helm, Chatacabra Coil, and Chatacabra Greaves.
