In this documentary I will tell you how to fix the error “The Group Policy Client Service failed the logon”
The system prevents users from logging into their accounts and displays an "Access Denied" message when the error "Group Policy Client Service failed to log on" occurs. This issue typically occurs when the Group Policy Client Service, which covers user settings and permissions, fails to start properly at logon. Issues with incorrectly configured or corrupted Group Policy Objects (GPOs) are the main causes of this issue. How to fix the error “The Group Policy Client Service failed the logon”
Another possible cause is communication issues with domain controllers, which are essential for group leadership functions in network environments.
Various tactics to fix this error will be discussed in this article.
1. Use the administrator account to edit the registry.
In case you are having trouble with the group customer service, registry sharing can help you. Acquiring an administrator account to access the registry allows you to correct or remove entries that could obstruct the proper initialization of the service. By repairing registry keys related to user profiles or deleting incorrect session data, this process helps the system to function properly again, allowing users to log in correctly.
- Important notice: Improper editing of the Windows registry can cause permanent damage to the system. Make sure to follow the instructions precisely and back up the registry before making any changes.
- To open the Run command, use Windows + R. Click "Enter" and then "Regedit" to open the Registry Editor. To open regedit, press Win + R. Using the left pane of the Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system key The services provided by CurrentControlSet\GPS\Video Call are required to make no changes for this key to be intact.
- Go to the following key: Keyboard Shortcut_Local_Machine_Software The latest version of Microsoft Windows, SVCHOST This path is critical as it encompasses the values and keys mentioned in step 3. The essential components that need to be counted are shown below: Make sure there is a multi-value named GPSvcGroup. If it is not present, click on the right pane to access the multi-screen, name GPSvcGroup and set it to GPSvc.
- Apply a new key (carpet) known as GPSvcGroup. Typically this key is already there. If not, click on the button in the right pane and choose New > Key. The name GPSvcGroup should be included.
- Open the newly created GPSvcGroup/carpet/key/key. In the right pane, right-click and create two DWORD values: First, create a DWORD named AuthenticationCapabilities and its value is 0x00003020 or 12320 in decimal. Next, create a DWORD called CoInitializeSecurityParam and then set the value to 1. After making the above changes, restart your computer.
2. Take control of the group address using the registry key.
To get things working properly again, sometimes permission issues need to be resolved. Once you have ownership of the group registry key, you will have the necessary permissions to change or fix it. Access restrictions or incorrect ownership could block the required group address from being set, but this step ensures that the system can read and use it.
- To open the Run command, use Windows + R. Enter the password in the dialog box and press Enter to open the Registry Editor. Click "OK" after you have typed your consent. Find the following key in the left pane of the Registry Editor: the system key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Services gpsvc under CurrentControlSet. We can now edit it by taking ownership of this key.
- To give rights, right-click on the gpsvc key on the carpet and select Grant. The selected owner should be TrustedInstaller. Click "Change" in the window that appears. Click Advanced in the Select User or Group window. Click Find Now. From the list of search results, select your user name and click OK.
- From the Select User or Group screen, click OK again. Now the ownership has been successfully changed.
- Closing the Registry Editor is a necessary procedure after obtaining the registry key. To open an elevated Command Prompt/PowerShell, press the start button, type cmd, and then open it as administrator. While typing the following command, make sure to hold down the enter key: In the registry, type "should be confirmed. You will receive a message of "Access denied" if the registry key mentioned in Step 3 has not been acquired. The last action is rebooting your computer.
3. System restore can be used.
Restoring your system to a state where everything was working properly using a system restore point will fix your system. To restore a system, you need to extract all the recent changes to system files and settings. Using a restore point you can set things up without damaging your personal files, as this error can arise due to disorganized system settings.
3.1. Start active session with another account on the system.
- Select System by right-clicking on the Start button.
- Click on System Protection in the left column.
- Click on the System Restore button.
- Click on the "Next" button.
- Select the box that says "Show more restore points" if necessary.
- Fix the problem and restore the system from a previous restore point. Your PC will reboot to that date. Some programs may be removed, although your data will remain intact. With just one account You can restore your PC to the previous point by entering the advanced startup options.
3.2 Hold down the Shift key and then restart your computer
By pressing the power button at the bottom right of the screen. Right-click on it to choose the restart option.
- The "Choose an option" menu will be displayed when you restart Windows.
- Choose Advanced options > System Restore from the Troubleshoot menu.
- Select a restore point from a date before the problem started and restore your system. Your PC will restart on that date, because although your data will be preserved, you may lose some programs.
You can restore your system if the system error continues or you don't have a restore point. But your data will still be saved, although this will remove all your applications. Instead, choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Keep my files. Then, use the advanced startup options.
4. Disable Quick Printer.
Because this feature does not completely shut down the system, some things (such as group policy) might not reset properly, disabling fast startup may resolve the issue. The system is completely shut down when you disable it, ensuring that everything is restarted afresh in order to prevent problems with the Group Policy Client Service on future logons.
- The revised and corrected article is included below: Click Start.
- Listen to the settings.
- Click the System emblem.
- Go to the Power & sleep section and click Additional power settings.
- Select Choose what the power buttons do.
- Move the slider down to the "Shutdown settings" setting.
- Turn on fast startup and uncheck the box next to it.
- Click Save changes to see more.
- Restore your PC.
6. Reset Winsock and restart the Group Management service.
It may be necessary to update both the Winsock catalog and the Group Leadership client service to fix this error. Restarting the Group Management service helps restore essential parts of the system needed to apply policies and user settings, which may have failed initially. By clearing the network settings and resetting Winsock, you can repair network problems that could affect the group's ability to connect to necessary services.
- To open the Run command, use Windows + R. Press Enter and type services.msc.
- To access the group's client directory, go to the service menu, click the right arrow, and then choose Properties.
- Click Start, then Apply and OK, after setting the Startup Type to Automatic.
- Right-click the start button to select System (Admin) or Powershell (Admin).
- Press and hold the Enter key while typing the following command: Reset winsock with netsh To close command prompt, type exit then press Enter
- Restore your PC
7. Summarize the first step of the session, in order.
On the other hand, starting the session using a specific order can repair stuck system processes. First, switch to the problematic user account and log in there. Thanks to this, the system has the ability to restart the Key Group Policy services. It can fix any issues with user profiles or services, which could fix access problems without a full reboot being necessary. The system will make sure to apply the necessary settings and permissions due to this method. Our best guess is that you have three accounts. The error is displayed on one of them and it's not working. Account Problem is the problematic account, while Working 1 and Working 2 are the working ones.
Note: Even without three accounts, you can still follow the same steps.
- First, make sure all users are logged in by switching them.
- Next, log out of each account in the example order (Activity1, Account_Problem, Act2).
- Log each account out afterward

- Next, you'll log in to the second working account, Working_2, and perform some activities first.
- You'll log out of the problem account, Account_Problem, once all working accounts are logged in. Examine whether the problem is resolved.
