The "Diagnosing Your PC" screen usually comes up in response to some problem with the startup or boot of your computer. When Windows can't load properly, the system tries to perform an automatic diagnostics phase and fix whatever issues may be causing that-but instead returns an error message. These messages are most often due to a broken or corrupted boot sector or corrupted system files used by Windows in its boot process.

1. Boot in Safe Mode and Free Space

This may be a result of Windows not having enough disc space to load properly at boot. The reason this may help is so you can rule out any extraneous drivers or services causing this problem. Once you open up Safe Mode, you should select to boot into Normal Mode or Safe Mode. To open Safe Mode, first power on your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key once the Welcome screen is up. You will now have an Advanced Boot Options menu appear on your screen.

From within the Advanced Boot Options menu, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode, or press the corresponding key-F4-for Safe Mode: F4

Let the subsequent boot complete. Once Windows has loaded, press the Windows key + R to open the Run command box. After having typed in "cleanmgr," click Enter to open the Disk Cleanup tool. How to Activate the Power of Clean Manager

To begin the clean-up process, open the Disk Cleanup panel, then click on the disc you want to clean. Select the C-or the named of the Windows drive-to delete files on your operating system drive. You can select a drive to clean with the help of the Cleanup Manager.

On the Disk Cleanup screen, scroll down and look for the Files to Delete section. You can select all non-essential files that you would like to delete. 2. Run SFC and DISM Scans

Some of the most important system file errors can be fixed with the Deployment Image Servicing and Management/DISM and System File Checker/SFC programs. SFC helps in automatically replacing missing or damaged files by using original files that come along with Windows so that this operating system works smoothly. To take it a step further, DISM fixes the Windows image that SFC uses.

Put the installation disc in drive and shut down the computer. Press any key before the starting procedure begins to start Windows from the installation disc.To boot from installation disk, press any key.  

Windows will now boot. From bottom left of your screen, click on "Repair your computer". When Windows Setup asks you if you'd like to Reinstall now or, if you want, you can "Repair Your Computer.".

Choose the tab: Troubleshoot, then click Advanced Options. On the Advanced Options menu, under Command Prompt, click. Advanced Settings >> Run as a command

In the elevated Command Prompt that opens, type sfc /scannow to start a System File Checker scan and press Enter.

Note that System File Checker only replaces the damaged files with healthy ones using a locally cached copy. Never interrupt this tool while it's scanning because doing so may further lead to logical errors. Be patient and just let the procedure get completed.

When the scan completes, restart your computer. Upon restarting your computer to return to the elevated Command Prompt screen, follow the steps above. To diagnose and repair corruption, from there, run these commands, one at a time, pressing Enter after each: The following URLs are available: Dism/Online/Cleanup-Image/CheckHealth, ScanHealth, and RestoreHealth.

Note that this tool relies on Windows Update to download clean copies of damaged files. So make sure that your Internet is stable before proceeding.

When it finishes, restart your computer and hope the problem's gone when it boots up again.

3. Use the System Restore utility

Sometimes, if your computer is stuck in some diagnostic cycle, the tool that may help you get it back into service is System Restore. It simply restores the functionality of your system through some 'recent changes' rollback: such as corrupted drivers, upgrades, or installation of programs.

Place the installation disc in the drive and then turn the computer off. When it says, "Press any key to boot from installation disc", press any key. Once in, for booting from the installation disc, hit any key.  

When Windows Setup has finished loading, find the Repair your machine option down in the bottom left corner and select it. Under Windows Setup, click "Repair your computer."

In the Command Prompt window, following the command, press Enter to launch the System Restore utility : rstrui.exe is in the system.

Click "Show more restore points." From here, choose a snapshot that was taken before the Diagnostics problem started to occur and click on it. Once you have chosen the snapshot, click on the Next button.Restore your computer to an earlier version

Click the Finish button to initiate the restore process. On the next boot, the system will restore itself.Restoring the previous version of the system

Just wait for the next boot to see if it gets past the Diagnostics screen. 

4. Disable the Automatic Repair

You can disable Automatic Repair if you don't want your computer to continuously try to fix things that it's not capable of fixing. An endless loop may come when Windows isn't really able to repair a problem for many consecutive times. You can disable Automatic Repair in order to exit this cycle and actually fix the problem. Afterwards, you can use Safe Mode or command-line utilities.

Hit the F8 key repeatedly as soon as the Boot menu screen appears, then the Advanced Boot Options menu will pop up.

Press the appropriate key-F5-or the arrow keys to highlight and select Advanced Boot Options menu item, Safe Mode with Networking. Restart in Safe Mode with Networking

5. Repair install or clean install

If the above options are not enough to fix your problem, then you may be better off with a repair install or clean install. A repair install will replace Windows without erasing your personal files if your computer is unable to boot due to faulty system files.

Though a clean install is always an option, you should be fully aware that it will erase all data currently saved in your Windows installation. A clean install will wipe out all of your personal information, apps, games, documents, and any other media you may have.

The better option is going to be a repair install, better known as an in-place upgrade. This will not erase any of your data, but it will wipe the operating system and all of the components within it, boot data included. Any and all of the user's applications, games, media, and preferences will stay in one piece.
