The traits are crucial while playing Throne and Liberty. The powerful enhancements can give increased Hit Chance for weapons, Mana Regen in the case of armor and accessories, Sleep Resistance in many types of items, and even more. Even when the traits matter, a player with fully-traited Rare gear already has a very big advantage in PvP over a player with untraited Purple gear.

How To Unlock Traits

Weapons, armor, and accessories can unlock new qualities in one of two ways. 

Extracts

First, the Auction House sells Extracts of the same item that have different traits.

Once you have found what you want to trait, go into the Upgrade menu for said item, find the Trait option, and put whatever trait you took from the Extract into your item of choice.

All types of gear must be the same for the Extract to work. Example: Putting Heavy Attack on a Karnix's Netherbow requires an Extract of Heavy Attack trait.

You may use Trait Extraction Stones to craft your personal equip Extracts. Otherwise stated, you may convert an item that can't be traded into an Extract that can be traded. You may begin earning Lucent by selling gear on the Auction House which includes a valued feature you aren't using. Say you don't need any more Heavy Attack, then you can sell it.

Unlockstones

You could use Trait Unlockstones to pick and choose the traits you want to add to items, which can sometimes be much cheaper than buying an identical Extract from an auction house. You would want to use caution while you decide how to use Trait Unlockstones since they're extremely rare.

Searching for Mystic Portals and Mystic Globes is a good strategy to obtain Trait Unlockstones, as sometimes they drop those. If you don't want to farm gear, you can farm Unlockstones instead via the Weekly Mission menu.

Trait Conversion

You gamble an equipment's trait roll in Trait Conversion. We have these boots here; we are trying to change the trait from Ranged Evasion to something else.

For a chance to reroll into a new characteristic, we can use 20 characteristic Conversion Stones. The probability of these rolls is on the right-hand side of the screen.

Gear Progression

Its gear progression system is a bit different compared to others, such as Throne and Liberty. If you first get a decent drop for your build, it is better to fully trait a piece of blue gear, then swap that out with the purple item to keep yourself from having to wear an untraited purple gear.

Traiting a blue object is far cheaper than a purple one, and the purple item will also have a chance to gain a blessing depending on what traits you have transferred, so it is possible to give a Purple object Blue qualities.

Chance to Gain Blessing

You can increase your chances of receiving a blessing by 10% by changing a blue trait to a purple one. Once it reaches 100%, your chances of a Blue trait completely upgrading a Purple trait are 100%. Sometimes, it's cheaper than buying a Purple Extract.
