But one of the reasons streaming media remains so popular is that they run few ads — sometimes none at all. So Disney and others must strike a balance that keeps subscribers from feeling overwhelmed by ads while giving sponsors a chance to have their say.
The commercial is emotional
The high demands of consumers are not just a matter of appearance. No matter the platform or format, it's about having the same emotional experience you had with something on your screen for the first time. The sheer volume of content consumption over the past few decades has raised expectations for visual fidelity. If they/we don't get this in the experience (ads, movies, even Snapchat filters) then the experience becomes less than "should be". Like trying to replicate Game of Thrones dragons in Snapchat filters. Of course, users will be disappointed.
Yes, consumers expect a very high standard of graphics and visuals, but that's not really the basis of the expectation - they expect great storytelling.
