How to solve the problem that Copilot says It seems that the session has been closed
Some Microsoft Copilot users received the message It looks like you've been signed out. This error prevents users from using the Microsoft Copilot chat feature. Some users reported that they received this error even when they were signed in with their Microsoft account.
The full error message is:
Sorry, it looks like you've been signed out. Please sign in again.
Copilot says It looks like you've been signed out
If you're unable to use Microsoft Copilot due to the error message "It looks like you've been signed out," use these troubleshooting tips to fix the problem. Before you continue, try another internet connection and see if that helps. Sometimes problems are associated with a particular network connection.
- Disable VPN or Proxy
- Clear browser cache and cookies
- Disable your browser extensions
- Use another web browser
- Create another profile
- Repair, reset, or reinstall Copilot
All of these fixes are explained below in detail.
1] Disable VPN or Proxy
If you are using a VPN connection or Proxy, the error might occur. Disable the proxy (if applicable) or disconnect from the VPN connection and check if you can use Copilot. If this fixes the problem and you are using a VPN service, contact your provider for further assistance or switch to another one.
2] Clear browser cache and cookies
A possible cause of this is corrupted cache and cookies. Clear your web browser's cache and cookies, and check if the problem persists. Press Ctrl + Shift + Del keys to open the Clear browsing data window in your web browser. Now, select the cookies and cache options and click on the Clear button.
You can also try deleting Copilot cookies in Edge or Chrome browsers. The following steps will guide you through this:
- Open Copilot in Edge or Chrome.
- Press the F12 key to open the Developer Tools.
- Click on the More tools icon (More icon in Edge and forward arrow icon in Chrome) and select Application.
- Expand Cookies under the Storage section. Right-click on the Copilot URL and select Clear.
3] Disable your browser extensions
Disable all the extensions in your web browser and reload the Copilot page. Check if it works this time.
If it doesn't show the "It looks like you've been logged out" error, then one of the browser extensions is the bad guy. Now, enable the extensions one by one and try to load the Copilot page every time you enable any extension. Immediately after it shows the error again, the last extension you enabled would turn out to be the culprit. Remove that extension and integrate its alternative.
4] Enter another web browser
You can also use Copilot on web browsers other than Edge. If Copilot doesn't work on Edge, try it with another web browser.
If it helps, resetting Edge to default settings might help. Resetting Edge will disable all extensions and clear temporary data. Your new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs will also be reset.
If the error occurs on a web browser other than Edge, reset that web browser.
5] Create another profile
Sometimes, the problem can be with your web browser's user profile. Create another profile in Edge or Chrome. Now, check if you can use Copilot on that user profile. If the error doesn't appear on a new user profile, then your old user profile is corrupted. You can delete it and continue using the new user profile. Before you delete the old profile, make sure that your data is synced in the cloud with your account.
6] Repair, reset, or reinstall Copilot
If an error occurs while using Copilot on your web browser, you can use the Copilot app. However, if the Copilot app shows you this error, you can repair, reset, or reinstall it to fix the problem.
Open Windows 11 Settings and go to Apps > Installed apps. Find Copilot in the list of installed apps. Click on the three dots next to it and select Advanced options. Scroll down and click on the Repair button. If repairing Copilot doesn't work, reset it.
If this solution doesn't work, Copilot should be uninstalled and re-launched on your system. Now, open the Microsoft Store and install Copilot from there.
If you don't know how to resolve the copilot error, read the authentication guide and there is a guide you can use with it.
