1. Check that there is space

If you have insufficient storage space, then OneNote may fail to sync notebooks.

Ensure the laptop is safe in its storage location. Possible locations include SharePoint or OneDrive.

You will need to make room on OneDrive if you want to keep your notebook there.

To enter the storage area, log in to your OneDrive account as shown in the picture. One other thing you can do to free up space is to empty the Recycle Bin. You can do that by clicking the "Empty recycle bin" button on this page at onedrive.live.com.

Besides, check if your hard drive has free space, and delete files you no longer need.

2. Optimize the notepad in OneNote

The OneNote notebook will have room for more notes once you enhance it. The following are some of the things you can do to enhance your OneNote notebook:

Open the OneNote application on your desktop.

Go to File > Options.

Click on the Save & Backup button.

Head to where you can optimize your files.

Select the Optimize All Files Now option.

Click OK.

The backups that OneNote performs are stored in your local storage, also referred to as C drive. The same problem may occur if your C drive has run out of space. That is why you must check and delete all the unnecessary backups by performing the following steps:

Open Run dialog box by using Win+R.

Hit the Enter key once you've typed %localappdata%.

Here, you can delete unwanted backups.

Open OneNote once again.

4] Clear the cache of OneNote.

Sometimes, deleting the cache can resolve issues. Here is how you can clear the cache in OneNote:

Open Media Explorer.

Navigate to this path: The current directory contains the data and applications of the Microsoft OneNote 16.0 user.

Right-click on the Cache folder and select the contents to delete. Reopen OneNote.
