One of the gates related to the "Heart of Corruption" quest is the Gate of Parched Hopes. That means it's a pathway to an optional boss and a pretty tough one, so make sure you are equipped with the right gear, skills, and allies for the battle.

Strategies for Defeating the Iliad

In the Hossberg Wetlands, one of two champions can be found: the Disciple-in-Ichor. During the story quest "Something Wrong," you will stumble upon its blight cyst as you go around collecting samples. Make sure to carefully target your attacks so that you don't attract the darkspawn hanging around the cyst. You absolutely do not want to fight the Disciple-in-Ichor along with a large pack of darkspawn.

Its traits are Trapper, Exploding, and Necrotic Imbued. It can also be burned but is resistant to necrotic damage. Absolutely do not bring Emmrich and Lucanis into this fight due to Necrotic Imbued, which makes necrotic damage almost useless against it. Following is a list of some attacks and abilities it can use:

A blight barrier is a good opening for the disciple.

Upon command, it can teleport to any part of the field.

It can also explode and strike Rook six or eight consecutive times.

Its range of jumping and thereby striking is intermediate.

To perform a more direct attack, it can charge forward in a straight line.

With two projectiles, it can cause huge damage over a large area. Every now and then, those missiles show not one but two monsters.

About every ten or so seconds, it explodes, inflicting damage on a wide area around itself. It matters little what else the Disciple is doing when that happens.

Another factor to consider in this conflict is the battlefield. Standing in some parts of the terrain causes a lingering blight that might hurt you, and there are some poisonous mushrooms here and there that will explode if you approach too near to them. Fortunately, there are many of jars that contain healing medicines.

Success in Surviving the Slaying of the Pillars

The champion essence to unlock the Gate of Parched Hopes can be gained by defeating Disciple-in-Ichor. This gate is situated in the Crossroads part known as Elvhenan's Haven, north from the pier.

As you enter, the Caretaker warns you that a formidable boss awaits you in the next sector. Ascend the crumbling tower, and then cross the bridge before going to meet him. Inside a small chest, you will find an item.

Your next two foes will be two Superior Undead Mages. To their right is a waterfall you can leap through, behind which is a Memento. To their left is the level 37 monster Slaughter of the Pillars.

As you enter the chamber containing Slaughter, a gate closes behind you and seals off this boss fight. Slaughter of the Pillars summons five weaker frenzy dead that are not very strong and do not have much health. Dispose of these quickly so that you can focus all your attention on Slaughter.

Slaughter will use the following attacks:

An explosive leap

The spearhead of a

A bash shield

A broad spear strike

A one-to-three hit hitch combat maneuver

All of Slaughter's minions are resistant to ice but vulnerable to necrotic. The party will want to bring Emmrich and Lucanis into this fight even though they were garbage for Disciple-in-Ichor.

You will want to throw a plethora of charged attacks in order to break through Slaughter's massive shield.

Slaughter, prepare for a shock. Breaching his guard with charged blows will buy you a few seconds, but a takedown is still out of the question.

You can use his essence at "The Heart of Corruption" quest door once Slaughter of the Pillars finally falls. There is also a portal to the left of Slaughter's throne that leads to a Timelost Horde treasure; the unique ring Andraste's Will is stashed in this chest, and it's perfect for fire-themed builds or those affected by the Burning affliction.
