I will explain to you How to fix the problem of Copilot not working in the Edge browser

Copilot is an AI assistant available on Windows 11. It is also built into Microsoft Edge. When you search for a topic on Bing, it also opens a tab for Copilot. Click on that tab and the AI-generated answer will open. Unfortunately, this doesn’t really work for some users. According to them, when they use Copilot on Edge, they get the “Trying to reconnect” error. While for some, the pages appear blank while using Copilot on Edge.

Copilot not working on Edge browser

Use the following suggestions if Copilot is not working on Edge browser. Before you proceed, check your internet connection. Make sure that it is stable. If possible, try connecting your system with another internet connection.

Let’s see all these fixes in detail.

Fix Trying to reconnect error on Copilot on Edge

1] Check for updates

Check for updates in Edge. If an update is available, download and install it. Open Edge and click on the three dots at the top right. Then, select Help & feedback > About Microsoft Edge. After that, Edge will automatically check for updates and install them (if available). Restart Edge after installing the update and see if the issue persists.

Furthermore, check for Windows Update and install it (if available).

2] Clear Cache and Cookies

Corrupted cache and cookies can be a possible cause of this issue. Therefore, we suggest you clear Edge's cache and cookies and see if it helps. To do so, press Ctrl + Shift + Del keys to open the Clear browsing data window. Now, select the respective checkboxes for cookies and cache, and click Clear now.

3] Clear Cookies for Copilot in Edge

If the issue persists, try clearing cookies for Copilot in Edge. Follow the steps below:

Follow the same steps to clear Bing cookies. First open Bing.com in Edge, then open Developer Tools. Now, clear Bing cookies.

Now, check if you can use Copilot in Edge.

4] Disable Extensions

Extensions installed in Edge can be the culprit behind this issue. To check this, disable all extensions and reload Copilot. See if it starts working this time. If this fixes the issue, the next step should be to identify the problematic extension. Enable extensions one by one and reload Copilot every time you enable an extension. This will help you identify the culprit. Once you find it, uninstall it.

5] Check Tracking Protection settings

The Tracking Prevention feature in Edge helps you protect your privacy by limiting websites that track your online activity. By default, it is set to Balanced. You can change it from Balanced to Basic or Strict. Strict settings block most trackers. However, this setting can cause some websites to stop working.

Check Tracking Protection settings. If it is set to Strict, change it to Balanced. The following steps will help you with that:

6] Create another profile

You can create multiple profiles in Edge. Create another profile and check if Copilot starts working. If this fixes the problem, you can continue using the new profile and delete the old one.

Before deleting the old profile, sign in to that profile with your Microsoft account, so that all your bookmarks and extensions will be saved in the cloud. This will help you restore all your bookmarks and extensions after signing in to the new profile with the same Microsoft account.

7] Reset Edge

If none of the above-mentioned solutions work, reset Edge to default settings.
