Fix Trying to reconnect error on Copilot on Edge
1] Check for updates
Check for updates in Edge. If an update is available, download and install it. Open Edge and click on the three dots at the top right. Then, select Help & feedback > About Microsoft Edge. After that, Edge will automatically check for updates and install them (if available). Restart Edge after installing the update and see if the issue persists.
Furthermore, check for Windows Update and install it (if available).
2] Clear Cache and Cookies
Corrupted cache and cookies can be a possible cause of this issue. Therefore, we suggest you clear Edge's cache and cookies and see if it helps. To do so, press Ctrl + Shift + Del keys to open the Clear browsing data window. Now, select the respective checkboxes for cookies and cache, and click Clear now.
3] Clear Cookies for Copilot in Edge
If the issue persists, try clearing cookies for Copilot in Edge. Follow the steps below:
- First, open Copilot in Edge.
- Press the F12 function key to open Edge Developer Tools.
- A pop-up window will appear on the right side for your confirmation. Click on Open DevTools.
- Select the Application tab at the top. If the tab is not visible, click on the + icon and select Application.
- Now, expand the Cookies drop-down menu on the left side.
- You will see the Copilot link there. Right-click on it and select Clear.
Follow the same steps to clear Bing cookies. First open Bing.com in Edge, then open Developer Tools. Now, clear Bing cookies.
Now, check if you can use Copilot in Edge.
4] Disable Extensions
Extensions installed in Edge can be the culprit behind this issue. To check this, disable all extensions and reload Copilot. See if it starts working this time. If this fixes the issue, the next step should be to identify the problematic extension. Enable extensions one by one and reload Copilot every time you enable an extension. This will help you identify the culprit. Once you find it, uninstall it.
5] Check Tracking Protection settings
The Tracking Prevention feature in Edge helps you protect your privacy by limiting websites that track your online activity. By default, it is set to Balanced. You can change it from Balanced to Basic or Strict. Strict settings block most trackers. However, this setting can cause some websites to stop working.
Check Tracking Protection settings. If it is set to Strict, change it to Balanced. The following steps will help you with that:
- Open Edge settings.
- Select Privacy, search, and services on the left side.
- Under Tracking Prevention, select Balanced.
6] Create another profile
You can create multiple profiles in Edge. Create another profile and check if Copilot starts working. If this fixes the problem, you can continue using the new profile and delete the old one.
Before deleting the old profile, sign in to that profile with your Microsoft account, so that all your bookmarks and extensions will be saved in the cloud. This will help you restore all your bookmarks and extensions after signing in to the new profile with the same Microsoft account.
7] Reset Edge
If none of the above-mentioned solutions work, reset Edge to default settings.
