Checking Event Logs

Disable any third-party antivirus currently being utilized.

Turn the antivirus software off and then use System Restore. Sometimes, even turning the third-party antivirus software off does not work. Furthermore, you might want to uninstall your antivirus software. Once you have uninstalled your antivirus software, using the product activation key, you can then attempt to run System Restore. Once you have done reinstalling your antivirus software, you will be able to reactivate it.

If the System Restore works after disabling the antivirus software, then either your antivirus is conflicting with System Restore or some feature in your antivirus is the culprit. For repairing this, you should contact the support team of your antivirus company.

A virus or malware could have attacked your system. It's time to scan for malware. That should be the first step, really. Take out your existing third-party antivirus you have or download one-which comes for free-to save your system. You can also use Windows Defender to scan.

3. Run Clean Boot or System Restore from Safe Mode.

The other option is to try to start System Restore in Clean Boot or Safe Mode. For this way, you can identify whether the issue arises due to some third-party background application or service. If it works in Safe Mode or Clean Boot, then go ahead with System Restore. After performing the System Restore, it will let you exit Clean Boot or Safe Mode.

4. Enter the Windows Recovery Environment and start System Restore.

It is also worth giving a try at the System Restore utility of the Windows Recovery Environment. As your computer is working fine, you can simply hit the Power button to enable the Windows Recovery Environment. You will need to first click the Windows button as the Power icon would be displayed afterward. Press Restart now while holding the Shift key down. Otherwise, open the Windows Recovery Environment via Windows 11 or 10 Settings.

To access the system restore menu in WinRE, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options. To perform the roll back, select an appropriate restore point.
