Causes for Windows deployment services error 0xc0000023

The problem may be caused by one of several causes, either at the server side or at the client.

Corrupted Boot Image: The boot.wim file contains the WIM image of Windows, comprising of the image of the OS with other files used in the course of operating system booting and installation. In installation, the whole process starts with WDS Server sending the boot.wim file to the target machine; hence, this problem could be majorly caused by a corrupted boot.wim.

Capturing of Operating System Image: If the capture of the operating system image that is taken and saved in the WIM file goes wrong or some of its components are missing, then the whole installation or OS deployment process may fail. This could also lead to a system crash of the whole deployment process during an attempt to load the files necessary for loading up your computer.

Hardware Incompatibility: It involves an inability to boot because of the incompatibility of hardware, the device drivers being outdated, corrupted, or in conflict with the other devices or target system's firmware. Also, there could be such deficiencies that originated the error.

WDS Setup Issue: Sometimes, the WDS server is unable to detect or broadcast the required WMI file to the destination machine. This could be due to various reasons that hamper the process of file transmission; hence it may be a firewall issue, improper configuration of network, among others.
