Songs of Conquest Skirmishes have eight difficulty settings. In this guide, we will further down the road, compare these settings, go through their pros and cons, and detail the enemy Threat Levels.
Changing the Difficulty Level?
The difficulty can be chosen before starting any given scenario or map. This appears on the Story Campaign's scenario select screen. Fair is the lowest, while Overwhelming is the highest; not all the difficulties are available for every scenario. Later, you will be able to adjust the difficulty even within the same campaign after the missions are complete.
For all other game modes, switch to the map settings screen-where you can see the lists of players-to adjust the difficulty. Next to the AI opponents in the list, you'll see a computer icon. By clicking that icon, you are able to set that AI's difficulty. Each AI can have a different, independently-set difficulty.
List of Difficulty Levels
Difficulty Levels and Their Effect:
Songs of Conquest has several stages of difficulty, with each stage bringing about a different gameplay experience. In essence, the significant variance for these modes is brought about in terms of AI behavior changes, resource multipliers, and starting conditions.
Simple: This is the most straightforward level in which the AI is much more inferior to the player. It is dedicated to the novices who want to learn how exactly the game will go on but without stress.
• Fair: The AI becomes more aggressive at this level and still allows considerable slack for the player. That would be great for players who have achieved some knowledge in the game and would like the challenge factor to go up very easily.
• Risky: The AI becomes aggressive to handle at this challenging level, and this could pose great threats. The survivor must use his optimum strategies and keep changing them to overcome challenges.
• Worthy: This is a balanced level since AI is equal to the player. For advanced players, this would be ideal because here, the game is enjoyable yet challenging.
• Hard: In this level, the difficulty is extremely high-the AI enjoys advantages in accessing resources and speed of development. One would require a good set of competencies and strategy to go through it successfully.
• Heroic: This is the highest difficulty level where the AI is super aggressive and powerful; recommended only for highly skilled players who are looking for extreme difficulty.
Key Factors Influencing Difficulty:
• AI Behavior: Different levels feature different aggressiveness, tactics, and decision-making by AI. Higher levels feature more active and strategic AI.
• Resource Multiplier: Certain multipliers come into effect with the following: income, costing of troops, and the experience bonus determining the development pace of both the player and AI. Often, on higher difficulties, multipliers become more and more in favor of the AI.
• Starting Conditions: Sometimes the AI is granted an advantage at the beginning of the match depending on the difficulty by being awarded additional resources. In this way, the AI gains the upper hand.
• Handicaps to AI: There are several levels of artificial limitations imposed on the AI, either preventing building something or researching its technologies.
Success Strategies
• Change Your Game Plan: As you go up in difficulty, it is obvious that your strategy has to change. Be all-out defensive, early aggression, or economic development, depending on the relative strengths and weaknesses of the AI.
• Learn from your mistakes: Go through losses, and analyze where one can improve. Observe tactics delivered by AI and work out a system of countering them.
• Experiment with different factions: Everything has its strong and weak point. Experiment with various factions to find one that fits one's playstyle and the difficulty level.
• Exploit the Game's Features: Ensure using the various features of the game, such as diplomacy, espionage, and alliance, against the AI.
By better understanding the different difficulty levels and what drives them, and some concrete strategies for success, you can tailor your experience better to suit your skill level and preference.
OVERWHELMING
Difficulty Level: DEADLY
DEADLY is a very challenging difficulty level for the player, where most of the advantages are one-sided to the AI. The most critical differences between this and lower difficulty settings are:
• Economic Supremacy: The AI has a much higher income and resource generation rate, which is achievable only by extremely fast construction and unit production. This is further multiplied by the fact that the AI is free to build defensive structures such as walls and towers without using one gold on construction.
• Military Superiority: AI units will be produced faster, require less upkeep, and gain experience faster than player units. This will allow the AI to field larger more powerful armies with greater ease.
• Strategic Advantage: AI begins play with a marketplace and is poised to provide you with an early economic boost. Also, AI units have extra visibility and move speed, ensuring an advantage in fights and in exploring the map.
• Sustainable Potential: No limits can be applied to unit levels, the extent of wielders, or the number of research points received by the AI. This means that the AI can develop its troops and technologies in the game invariably, which the player cannot follow in the long run.
Threat Level:
The other critical factor is the Threat Level of the enemy meeting. It rates, on a relative basis, how strong your army is compared to that of your enemy. The higher the Threat Level, the tougher the battle and the grimmer the prospects of defeat or significant losses.
Highly avoid fights which appear orange or red as in the screenshot above. This is because these fights are highly dangerous and will most likely decimate your troops. If you find a stationary enemy, it would make sense for you to fall back and come back when your army is upgraded. For a roaming enemy wielder, avoid their fight as much as possible by shifting out of the way during your turn.
This will, of course, open up newer possibilities for winning if you had thought carefully about the Threat Level and adjusted your strategy to the same effect on this challenging difficulty setting.
