Kombucha is making a comeback as a healthy, thirst-quenching beverage
Kombucha is an ancient and truly delicious sweet-tangy drink with many health benefits that has been passed down through the generations. It is the result of a fermentation process that combines kombucha mushroom or "Scoby" (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast) tea, sugar and water. Authentic kombucha scones are self-replicating, which makes them a very sustainable, enjoyable and affordable drink at home. Kombucha is a carbonated drink made by fermenting sweet tea. It starts out tasting like a regular cup of sugary southern tea, but after a week or two of fermentation, it turns into a sour, tangy, fizzy drink. It's certainly not for everyone, but for those of us who enjoy these flavors, you can't beat it.
Kombucha is a great way to get you to drink more water
Personally, I can really recommend drinking kombucha on a regular basis. It contains live bacteria, organic acids and antioxidants. My digestive system seems to work better when I drink it regularly. If you haven't tried it, it might be worth a try. Part of what makes kombucha so fun to drink is that it fizzes because of the fizzing. You're probably familiar with the term fizz when you think of soft drinks or soda, but what do you expect from fizz in kombucha? The bubbles in kombucha are the result of the live bacteria used to make it. When sugar is added to a drink, culture eats it (because sugar tastes good and who wouldn't want to). This causes a chemical reaction that produces carbon dioxide, which produces carbonic acid.
