Here you already have a complete guide that you will learn How to enable or disable the Recommended section in Explorer Home in Windows 11.

Here's how to enable and disable the 'Recommended' section of Windows 11 File Explorer's Home area. Microsoft is now rolling out the new 'Recommended' section on top of the File Explorer home page that shows the files that the company thinks you might need based on your activities.

The File Recommendations feature was first made available to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Canary channels. Although the feature was supposed to recommend cloud files associated with Azure Active Directory (AAD) or Microsoft Entra ID accounts, it only worked for users signing into Windows with those identities.

File Recommendations are now more generally available and are in progressive rollout on stable channels for users. Windows 11 offers options to control or disable the feature, so you can still get the update even if you'd rather not see the suggestions.

How to Turn on or off the Recommended tab in Windows 11 File Explorer home.

There are two ways to toggle the 'Recommended' area in the File Explorer Home panel in Windows 11:

File Explorer Options and Registry Editor Options

Observe closely.

[File Explorer Options]

The easiest way to enable or disable File Recommendations in the File Explorer Home is through the Folder Options window.

Launch the Settings app using Win + I. In the search box, enter "file explorer options," then click on File Explorer Options under results.

In the Options menu of File Explorer, under the General tab, uncheck the following under Privacy:

Show only the matched part

Show account-specific data, as well as recently used, favorite, and suggested files

Once you have chosen, click on Apply and then OK to save. For the changes to take effect, restart File Explorer.

By default, the 'Recommended' section is turned on in File Explorer, but you can make it vanish altogether by unchecking the settings mentioned above.

Helpful hint: right-clicking a file and choosing "Remove form Recommended" will hide it from the Recommended section.

You can always undo these changes later if you'd like to keep the section.

To add account-based insights, recent, favorite, and recommended files, open the File Explore Options dialogue and tick the box. Then choose "Show recommended section" from the drop-down menu. Click implement > OK then restart File Explorer for changes to take effect.

2) Registry Editor

Power users can modify the Windows Registry to enable or disable File Recommendations in File Explorer Home. But if you mess up editing the Registry, it could have disastrous results. Be careful or create a backup of your Registry before you make any changes.

The Run dialogue box will appear when you press Win + R; in it, type "regedit" and hit Enter. When asked to confirm by User Account Control, click Yes.

Now you can access the Registry Editor. In the Registry Editor, find the following key:

Navigator's current version is stored in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER directory.

Find these two DWORDs on the right-panel:

ActivateCloud Files with Quick Access

Display Suggestions

The above DWORDs determine whether or not File Explorer displays recommended files. Just double-click on them and, from their default '1' Value data change it to '0' to turn the Recommended section off.

Set their Value data back to '1' to turn the section back on. After every change above, remember to restart File Explorer.

Note:

There is some interconnectedness between the Recommended and Quick Access areas, especially in Windows 11.

File Explorer will only show the Quick Access and other views with ShowRecommendations =0. With ShowRecommendations set with the value 1, file suggestions are displayed, recently used, instead of showing Quick Access.

On - The option to show Cloud Files in Quick Access, below or "0"(Off) and Recommendations on :

(ShowRecommendations = 1), the Quick Access part is replaced with Recommended, but cloud files will not appear in this section. You have to reset ShowCloudFilesInQuickAccess to 1 for cloud files to appear in the Recommended section.

With this, you will learn how to enable or disable the recommended section in Explorer Home in Windows 11, but we also see it nearby.
