Horizon Zero Dawn is, for the most part, a game filled with exciting adventures from start to finish. That said, like many open-world games, there is some downtime. In this game, some of that downtime is due to hunting, some of it is due to how one upgrades their gear.
Unfortunately, not all hunting is interesting or even enjoyable. For example, hunting rats can be more of a hassle than anything else, but you should still do it to improve your character's arsenal. The guide below details where various rats can be found and how you can farm them for the resources you need, so you never have to hunt for them again.
How to Get Rattlesnake Bone and Skin in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
Surprisingly, rattlesnakes are a pain to hunt in Horizon Zero Dawn, not because they're hard to kill, but simply because they're so small and fast that tracking them down can be a chore. It's like a big Tom and Jerry game, and their spawn points are also fewer and farther between compared to other animals like boars and foxes.
To get a consistent rat spawn, head to a familiar spot: the Ruins, which are just to the right of Mother's Watch. In fact, this is the same place where Aloy played as a child at the beginning of the game. When you reach the bottom of the Ruins, draw your bow and get ready: several rats spawn here, so all you need to do is keep killing them until you have all the rat bones and skins you need.
Why You Need Rat Bones and Skins in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
Like other animal resources, rat bones are an uncommon item, while rat skins are rare, meaning you might want to breed a few extra rats to collect enough skins. Luckily, you won't need too much of anything to craft everything. In total, you will need 4 Rat Bones and 3 Rat Pelts (4 pelts if you are playing in NG+ mode or 5 if you are playing in NG+ mode on Ultra Hard mode).
Here is the list of items that require Rat Bone and Rat Pelt:
Items that require 1 Rat Bone each:
- Explosive Slingshot Ammo Pouch Upgrade 3
- Stormslinger Ammo Pouch Upgrade 3
Items that require 1 Rat Pelt each:
- Explosive Slingshot Ammo Pouch Upgrade 4
- Stormslinger Ammo Pouch Upgrade 4
You also need 1 Rat Pelt to purchase the Adept Rattler weapon during NG+ and 2 if you are playing in Ultra Hard mode.
