From the USRC, head into the forest where the other ruins are. Before the tallest of the ruins, you'll find a group of minor ruins (if you approach from the north) and between them, a small hill. The pile of ancient rubble is under an empty archway, where the container is located.

Set Two, Container Four: Sterling-Malkeet

Unlike the other three containers in the set, the Sterling-Malkeet Ancient Container is located on the northwest side of the map. To find it, players will have to clear out the Shattered Kiln camp, which has a camp player level of 20. Once you've cleared out the camp, use your Campfire Focus on the settlement until you encounter the purple Ancient Rubbish Heap bug.

The four ancient ships in the final set are in the western part of the map, meaning players will need to complete at least the A Seeker at the Gates quest and get out of Nora's territory.

Three Games, Send One: Odyssey

Ship Odyssey The Odyssey ship is easy to find while playing through Horizon: Zero Dawn's main story missions. Throughout the City of the Sun mission, players must infiltrate an excavation site to save Olin and kill several enemies in the process. Approach from the west side, as it's the only way into the circle of rock formations, and use your Focus once the area is clear to find the ancient ship.

Three Games, Two Ships: Metalmaker

The Metalmaker ship will take players back to the far northwestern part of the map to the ancient ruins known as Maker's End. These will be part of a major mission in the main story, so this collectible item will be easier to locate than some of the others in the game. Simply head a little east from the ruins into the Corrupted Zone and clear it out. Alternatively, since the item is on the outskirts, you may be able to avoid the Corrupted, if you're quick enough.

Set Three, Canister Three: Jomei

If you're sticking to the west side of the map, the Jomei collectible is more towards the center of Horizon: Zero Dawn's massive open world. If you've uncovered most of the map, then you'll want to look for ancient ruins called Dimmed Bones, as the item is a very short distance west of this, but it's just as easy to get to from the campfire to the west. From the campfire, simply follow the path on the side of the rock wall and use your Focus on the top. The ancient ruins will be just to the right as you climb up the hill.

Set Three, Canister Four: Thunderheads

The final ancient container is inside the Makers End ruins in the northwest, and it's probably the most unmissable collectible of them all. In the Makers End mission, once you clear the starting area of all the hostiles, you'll step up onto a platform to a narrower path that leads you to the next most important part of the story and the introduction of a massive new machine. Before you head down, head down the path with an eye on the pile of old debris on the right.

While Ancient Vessels are of little use to Aloy, there is one merchant who values the items highly - that is, if the entire set is completed. Once you've completed each set, or all of them if you prefer, speak to Scholar Palas in Meridian. He'll be marked on your map as the Container Trader once you've met him. For each set you complete, the merchant will reward you with a Palas Reward Box.

Each Palas Reward Box contains 500 Metal Shards and five Mod Boxes. As per the above, once you locate and trade those 12 containers, Aloy will earn 1,500 Metal Shards and 15 Mod Boxes containing the Weapon and Outfit Coils capable of substantially upgrading Aloy's gear.
