Should You Pick a Male or Female Character in Honkai Star Rail

At the beginning of your journey in Honkai: Star Rail, Trailblazers start off with an important choice in which gender their main character will take. That is after a brief character introduction to gunslinging Kafka and her partner, Silver Wolf, who have just managed to find a Stellaron, which is highly in demand as advanced technology. In order to do so, Honkai: Star Rail requires you to make one of two choices at that point, namely the activation of Receptacle Stelle or Receptacle Caelus. This is an irreversible decision and cannot be modified in any way for the rest of the trip, exactly like the choice given at the beginning of a Pokémon journey. Choose wisely.

Which to Choose: Stelle or Caelus in Honkai Star Rail?

Unlike Aether and Lumine from Genshin Impact, Stelle or Caelus in Honkai: Star Rail is a choice that will not affect how you play whatsoever. This has to do with the fact that they share identical dialogue options, combat abilities, and stats; your choice will in no way impact your theorycrafting or character development.

Whether you chose Stelle or Caelus, the interactions with the story and its characters will remain exactly the same. That's because this game really makes use of that blank-slate kind of storytelling where it lets the player wholeheartedly dive into the in-game role and project themselves onto it.

While that might disappoint some players who were hoping for more practical differences or variation between Stelle and Caelus, this system has one glaring positive: you get to choose the character with whom you resonate the most on a personal level. After all, it is a matter of aesthetic preference, since beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What are the differences among the major characters in Honkai Star Rail?

For that, we chose Receptacle Stelle because he was the same voice actor who voices Traveler Lumine in Genshin Impact. Still, Caelus really brings out the cool factor with his cyberpunk-like outfit that shouldn't go unaccounted for in those who like that kind of thing. As for Stelle, she pulls off a more classy figure with her skirt and high heels. Of course, this would be our personal view, and other Trailblazers may have their views on how the characters look.

While both Stelle and Caelus may be coming across as a bit reserved at first, their personalities will later change drastically in the course of the story. Many of your choices in dialogue options will have a great effect on developing them. Despite that, a lot of players often find themselves favoring certain characters from the Astral Express and end up using them as their main units for the entire playthrough. Eventually, this may not be such an important first choice between Stelle and Caelus, since ultimately the bonds that one ends up making are usually stronger with other characters.

Of course, all of this is not to say a choice between Stelle and Caelus does not come with some sort of consequence. While their gameplay mechanics and abilities are identical, the differences in their appearance, and any future storyline involving them, might very well show that choices will need to be made by a player. Some players may find they like one over the other on an emotional level simply because they feel more connected and attached to the character.
