When it comes to the taste of your coffee and functionality of your machine, cleaning and maintenance is key. Our automated ‘Descale cycle’ on the Barista Express™ Impress does all the work for you so that you can continue to enjoy your café favourites from the comfort of your home.
Directions:
1. Empty the drip tray and water tank, then remove the water filter.
2. Dissolve one packet of the descaler with one litre of warm water and pour the solution into the water tank and re-insert into the machine.
3. With the machine turned off, press and hold the ‘Power’ and ‘2-cup’ button simultaneously to enter ‘Descale’ mode. The machine will begin heating up automatically with the ‘Power’ and “2-cup” button flashing continuously.
4. Place a 2-litre container under the group head and steam wand.
5. The ‘Power’, ‘2-cup’ buttons, ‘Maintenance’ and the ‘Hot Water/Steam’ indicators will illuminate when the machine is ready to descale. Press the ‘2-cup’ button to start descaling the coffee component of the machine; this will take approximately 25 seconds with the ‘2-cup’ button flashing continuously. To stop the descaling process within 25 seconds, press the ‘2-cup’ button again.
6. When the coffee component has finished descaling, the ‘2-cup’ button will illuminate and will beep once. Descaling the steam and hot water components will take approximately 13 seconds and 8 seconds respectively.
7. Descale the steam component by turning the ‘Steam dial’ left towards the ‘Steam’ icon.
8. When steam stops delivering, descale the hot water component by turning the ‘Steam dial’ to the right towards the ‘Water’ icon.
9. Turn the ‘Steam dial’ back to the vertical position once hot water stops delivering.
10. By now, half of the descaling solution should be left in the water tank. To continue the descaling process, repeat the previous steps to completely empty the solution in the tank.
11. After descaling, remove the water tank and rinse thoroughly. Refill with fresh, cold water to the max line and insert into the machine. Repeat the steps again to further cleanse the machine of any residue from the descaling solution.
12. To finish, press the ‘Power’ button to quit the ‘Descale’ mode. All LED lights should then switch off.
