Check out more helpful tips with us in our H-E-B Texas Tails playlist and visit your H-E-B pet aisle for everything for your fur family or explore more online. 00:00 hi I'm Stacie with heb and I'm here with 00:01 Hawk and Karen bead certified dog 00:03 behavior consultant Carrie what are we 00:05 going to be discussing today today we 00:06 are going to talk about impulse control 00:08 [Music] 00:20 it's important that we teach our dogs 00:23 good things come from us but sometimes 00:25 they have to have some manners a great 00:28 way to teach that is a training game 00:29 called 00:30 it's your choice we basically teach the 00:32 dogs that if they are calm and quiet 00:34 they get what they want that might be 00:37 food from your hand food from their bowl 00:39 putting on the leash to go for a walk or 00:42 even going outside when I start training 00:46 using food I start with a higher value 00:49 treat heb has a great assortment of 00:51 treats we have everything from human 00:53 greed biscuits all the way to smoked 00:55 brisket meat treats for your dog to 00:57 start we want to have a handful of 00:59 treats most of the time the dogs are 01:01 going to try and mug your hand they're 01:03 going to bite your hand and they're 01:04 going to try and get to the food inside 01:06 but keep your hand closed as the dog 01:09 begins to back away make it available to 01:11 them and open your hand if they mug you 01:14 again close your hand if they back off 01:16 open your hand 01:17 pretty soon the dog will learn if they 01:19 back off the hand food is available it's 01:22 important to teach a dog not to knock 01:24 you over when feeding them and not to 01:26 jump all over you when you put the leash 01:28 on that is a concept known as impulse 01:31 control HTV has all kind of treats from 01:34 biscuits to jerky to rawhide to help 01:36 with any chewing needs your dog may have 01:38 we can enrich our dog's lives just like 01:41 they enriched ours 01:43 thanks for joining us visit your h-e-b 01:45 for everything cut click here to 01:49 subscribe for more h-e-b Texas tales- advertisement spot 2020
