Check out more helpful tips with us in our H-E-B Texas Tails playlist and visit your H-E-B pet aisle for everything for your fur family or explore more online. 00:00 hi I'm Stacie with heb this is McCoy 00:02 we're here with Karen deeds 00:03 certified dog behavior consultant what 00:05 are we doing today Karen we're going to 00:07 talk about some essential and fun 00:08 training tips positive training helps to 00:25 create a two-way street of communication 00:27 between the dog and the person which 00:29 helps to build a positive relationship 00:30 between the two teaching your dog to 00:34 come when called needs to be fun so we 00:36 start off creating a positive 00:38 association with the word you want to 00:40 call your dog with every time the dog 00:42 comes we want them to have a good 00:44 experience so we start out with just 00:46 making the word mean good things so we 00:49 say the word come and we give a treat 00:51 come give a treat come give a treat then 00:56 I would start saying the word take a few 00:58 steps backwards then give the treat we 01:01 want to encourage the dog to follow us 01:02 because movement can be rewarding itself 01:04 so we say come give a treat 01:07 come take a few steps back give a treat 01:10 what's your advice and types of treats I 01:12 like soft chewy treats but it depends on 01:15 the dog some dogs like crunchy stuff 01:17 we're good thing heb as you covered from 01:19 crunchy to meaty once you learn the 01:22 basics of training your dog you can have 01:24 fun with just about anything 01:26 teaching leg weaves I begin with a dog 01:29 on my side I take a big step and I lure 01:32 the dog through my legs and then give 01:34 them the treat and make sure they come 01:36 through my legs happy and with 01:37 enthusiasm to get the treat once they 01:40 are going through one step I take 01:42 another step with the treat in the other 01:43 hand and lure for the second step it's 01:46 just a matter of building duration and 01:48 building more steps into the routine and 01:49 pretty soon you have a dog wanting to go 01:52 between your legs as you're taking steps 01:54 training should be fun and it builds a 01:56 really great way for the dog to 01:58 communicate to the person and the person 02:00 to communicate to the dog and for us to 02:02 live together and create a beautiful 02:04 relationship 02:07 thanks for joining us visit your h-e-b 02:09 for everything cut click here to 02:13 subscribe for more h-e-b Texas tales- advertisement spot 2020
