In this video, she opens up about her relationship with South Africa and her work. 00:06 For me South Africa is really my homeland. 00:09 I've built up some absolutely wonderful friendships. 00:12 We're actually still in contact and we always see each other. 00:15 I have taken lots of incredible moments from here with me. 00:18 It was really important for me to shoot here. 00:21 If you look at the already very complex history of South Africa 00:25 and what happened at the start of apartheid. 00:28 In fact, black people had to leave the centre 00:31 and they created these townships around Johannesburg. 00:35 So if you think about it, the city was built 00:38 around the city. 00:39 So perhaps it was a lot livelier than in the centre. 00:42 That's what I wanted to show, these real-life scenes. 00:46 That kind of scene that could be going on more or less daily, 00:49 while choosing places which are really bustling 00:53 and also really represent South Africa. 00:56 How to use the outfits with the models and shine the spotlight on them. 01:01 It's also all of a woman's sensitivity 01:05 as well as the power and strength of a woman in her attitude. 01:09 And then she's really proud of herself 01:12 and she's showing me this kind of warrior attitude in life. 01:16 Every day there are obstacles to overcome. 01:19 It was also important to showcase them. 01:23 When they contacted me, 01:24 I was obviously really enthusiastic and happy. 01:27 I was really flattered to be given this opportunity to be able to work 01:31 with a collection that speaks to me because I have a double heritage. 01:34 I have a double culture. 01:36 So from my African side it actually inspires lots of feelings within me. 01:40 It's an honour to be able to work with a brand like this 01:44 and with these outfits which are really fabulous. 01:47 The details are incredible, everything is ultra-fine. 01:51 I've also really loved this approach 01:53 of collaborating with people from the continent 01:57 and not just appropriating many different cultures. 01:59 I find this collection is really interesting 02:03 in the sense that women have been hugely involved. 02:05 I find Maria Grazia places an emphasis on 02:07 all of the craftsmanship and expertise which is also feminine. 02:10 The idea of shooting in South Africa makes a lot of sense to me. 02:14 It's interesting to work on African identities 02:19 through a Western point of view. 02:21 But it's also working on it through an African point of view. 02:26 I think it's really important because it's a theme 02:29 you can find throughout my work.- advertisement spot 2019
