If you're using Windows, you might have trouble installing SolidWorks since the installer is attempting to install Microsoft SQL Server. Basically, everything goes smoothly during the installation until it comes to the point where it needs to install Microsoft SQL Server. At that point, it fails to install both SQL Server and the other components that are scheduled to be installed. After that, a pop-up window will appear with an error notice.
Verify the SQL server configuration in the SOLIDWORKS Electrical preferences.
According to our security standards, the sa password you provided is not strong enough.
Consult the Setup Help or the SQL Server 2019 Books Online for more details on "Database Engine Configuration - Account Provisioning" regarding strong password requirements.
The solutions provided here will also apply if you receive an error message that is different from the ones described. Check out this post for solutions if you're having trouble installing SolidWorks with Microsoft SQL Server.
Fix Microsoft SQL Server failed to install SolidWorks
Launch the installation disc as an administrator if the installation of SolidWorks failed due to Microsoft SQL Server. If you continue to encounter this problem, try the solutions provided below.
1. set up the electrical features
CAD software Data pertaining to electrical projects must be stored in a Microsoft SQL Server database. The installer fails to install Microsoft SQL Server when it tries to install Electrical. Which is why we have to set this option to fix this problem. Here are the actions you need to follow to accomplish that.
- Click Change in the Electrical Options section after you reach the installation summary page.
- Select "Install a new instance of SQL Server" from the SQL Server section after you've verified that ablocalhost is the name of the collaborative server.
- To make it ablocalhost/abTEW SQLEXPRESS, you must prefix the instance name with "ab" in the Name column.
- Additionally, before SOLIDWORKS Electrical, put ab in the location field.
- To return to the Summary page and continue installing, click the back button.
If you can be patient and wait for the installation to finish, maybe the problem may go away.
2. alter the size of the blocks
The disk alignment process uses the data blocks read/written to the storage device as its unit of measure. Unfortunately, SQL Server does not support 32k in Windows 11. For that reason, Solidworks' attempt to install SQL Server can fail. We will change the block size because you are experiencing problems, even if it is not ideal. Launch the Command Prompt and type the following command to verify if this is the cause of your problem.
SectorInfo, fsutil, and fsinfo
For the time being, SQL Server is compatible with sector storage sizes of 4 KB (4096) and 512 bytes.
Verify the value of PhysicalBytesPerSectorForPerformance and PhysicalBytesPerSectorForAtomicity. If the two numbers are different, choose the bigger one to provide the size of the disk sector. The size of a sector is 4 KB when the value is 4096.
A registry key can be added to simulate a 4 KB sector size if the block size exceeds 4 KB. To accomplish this, use PowerShell with Administrator rights to perform the required tasks.
"* 4095" is the value that should be assigned to the "ForcedPhysicalSectorSizeInBytes" property, which is located in the "HKLM:SYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesstornvmeParametersDevice" subdirectory.
Just execute this command to make sure the registry is added.
-Name "ForcedPhysicalSectorSizeInBytes" -Path "HKLM:SYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesstornvmeParametersDevice" and "Get-ItemProperty"
Hopefully, this will resolve the issue. After that, restart your computer and continue with the installation.
3. Modify the name of the instance
There are several options available to you in the event that you encounter an error message indicating that the instance name is already in use. By selecting the desired installation path or deselecting products, you can modify the installation process with the touch of a button. Be careful to deselect "Electrical" from the Products menu as well.
If the problem persists after you make the adjustments, try restarting the installation. If there is already an instance or directory with the same name, then following modifications should fix our problem.
4. Deselect SW PDM Client, SW Electrical, and SW Manage.
Our SolidWorks Electrical, Manage, and PDM Client will be disabled from the Products area due to the installation difficulty. In order to remove SOLIDWORKS Electrical, SOLIDWORKS Manage, and SOLIDWORKS PDM Client from the Summary window, go to the Products tab, click on Change, and then uncheck the boxes. After that, return to Summary and continue installing.
