Easily install and run software in a Sandbox on Windows 11 for enhanced security and isolation. Discover step-by-step guidance now!

Use Windows Sandbox if you're a developer or simply want to test your software in a pristine Windows environment. It is a thin desktop environment that allows you to execute apps independently in a secure environment. Here we will examine the process of configuring Sandbox on Windows 11 and 10 and how to install and test software in it.

install and run Software in Sandbox on Windows 11

The following are the steps to follow in Windows 11 or Windows 10 to install and test software in the Sandbox environment.

1. Install Windows Sandbox

It is not possible to utilize the operating system that came with your computer when developing software from scratch and testing it. Some software drivers may already be installed on your OS, or you may need to download them. In such a situation, Windows Sandbox is useful. It offers a new setting, which your clients may experience when they install your software. Activate Windows Sandbox by following the instructions shown below.

Finding Windows Sandbox, checking it, and then clicking Ok are the next steps.

Installing Windows Sandbox could be a lengthy process. When that's done, go to the Start Menu and type in "Windows Sandbox" to Launch it. Windows Sandbox will scan for and attempt to install updates whenever you run it. After that, Sandbox will start running on your PC. The nicest thing about Sandbox is that your changes are immediately erased as you close it. You might see if you can close it and then be prompted to confirm that.

Windows Sandbox requires the creation and execution of a bat file on computers running Windows 11 Home. You can enable Windows Sandbox by following the instructions indicated above after running the script.

2. Copy the installation file

You can test web-hosted software using Windows Sandbox, but you can also copy and paste applications from the host machine into the Sandbox environment.

As an example, we provide FixWin 11, a free piece of software that is widely considered to be among the greatest Windows repair solutions available.

The ZIP file was obtained by us using the aforementioned link. Simply right-click the ZIP folder, choose Copy, then go to the Sandbox environment, find the desired area to store the file, and finally, choose Paste to transfer it to the environment.

After pasting the file into the Sandbox environment, you can easily extract it by right-clicking on it.

Within the Sandbox environment, you'll find a browser that you may utilize to download apps from the web. But many people disable the network to make the setting more secure. To replicate this, simply copy and paste the following script into a Notepad document and save it as a.wsb file.
Turn off

After you execute the script, your Sandbox device will lose all network and communication capabilities.

3. Set up the software

We may now install the program on the Sandbox system since we transferred the installation DVD from the host machine. The installation process will be same, as it is merely a Windows environment; the sole distinction being the filesystems. This environment will be set up with a temporary account because of that. You may notice that the application isn't installing or extracting to the location you usually have when you go through the installation or extraction processes.

Everything else about the procedure will remain unchanged. Using this guide as a starting point, you can install the app and give it a try.

Any modifications you make to the Sandbox environment will be undone when you close it, so you can start again with a blank slate the next time you wish to use it.
