How to perform a knockdown in Dragon Age Veilguard

Staggering an enemy and knocking them down is an integral part of Dragon Age Veilguard's combat system. This part of the tutorial will explain the mechanics of knocking enemies down, what the stagger bar is, and how to exploit your enemies' weaknesses.

What does it mean by Stumbling and Knockdown?

The grey bar above your enemies' heads represents your Staggered condition. Over time, the bar will fill up as you damage them. When it's full, the enemy stuns. In this state, people are helpless and vulnerable to attacks.

Their stagger bar will start to decrease once you leave an enemy alone for a period of time.

You can knock down your opponent by using a special attack when your opponent is staggered. Just approach a staggered enemy and hit the right button (right analog stick on a controller activates the knockdown).

Knockdown inflicts a great amount of damage. Thus, it's worth using it every time it's possible.

How to fill the stagger bar fast?

In Dragon Age: Veilguard, staggering enemies is one of the most important strategies in combat. Since the bar above the heads of enemies fills up with basic attacks extremely slowly, there are a few ways to speed up this process significantly.

It takes a lot more time to fill the stagger meter with charged heavy attacks than with simple fast ones.

The skill trees of each class have a variety of passive effects and special abilities that can throw the opponent off their game. Keep an eye out for the bolded word "Stagger" in the descriptions of the new skills you can acquire. The Titan Stomp of the warrior and the Reeling Bolt of the rogue are two such instances.

One strong build would be that which is great at close combat and constantly catches opponents off guard.
