Can you change gender in Dragon Age Veilguard

Since there are virtually no gender divides in Thedas, gender isn't a major factor in Dragon Age: Veilguard. On the other hand, you might want to switch up your gender identity in-game from time to time. We go down the process of selecting a gender, define pronouns, and address the question of whether or not you can alter your gender in-game on this page.

Pronouns and gender

In the beginning of the character builder you will be given a choice for your character's gender and pronouns. Three will be available to you, as in the following options:

The articles of address

respectively, those identifying themselves as: female, male or non-binary; and then, singular pronouns : she, her, he, his, they.

For instance, you could use the pronouns she or her for your male protagonist, nothing changes the other person's pronoun option. The only thing that gender and pronoun choice might affect is just how some NPCs address you, besides the fact it has no bearing on gameplay of any kind. Not to say that in most cases, anyway, there is little consequence of both gender and pronouns regarding how your character looks.

Can I choose my gender later in the game?

The answer to the question is no. Gender selection is an absolute final decision. You can't change your identify or pronouns in the game. Changing the character's look will only let you give it a more feminine or masculine expression. Even if you change your voice, it will not affect how NPCs deal with you.

How does the little mirror work?

This artifact can be found in your Lighthouse room—the same room that you speak to Solas in—pretty early into the game. Your character will be able to discern if they have ever transitioned once they start to reminisce about their past in the mirror. Once you create a transgender identity, that identify will pop up when you can later use it during chats. Oddly enough, this option is also available when you select that your character is non-binary during the creation of it. That said, you will still not be able to change the gender within the game.
