Emmrich is a necromancer belonging to the Mourning Guard faction in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. After completing all of his companion's quests, Rook must help Emmrich make an important decision during the Sacrifice of Souls quest.

Fortunately, it doesn't change the ending or affect any endgame content, unlike other choices within Dragon Age: The Veilguard. After the big fight, where Manfred makes the ultimate sacrifice, Rook has to carefully choose whether Emmrich brings Manfred back or becomes a Lich.

Should you bring Manfred back or let Emmrich become a Lich in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

In short, players should choose whatever they want, as it doesn't affect the ending. If it doesn't matter, letting Emmrich become a Lich is a slightly better choice thanks to the legendary armor abilities he gains. On the other hand, if you care about Manfred being the main item and if you prefer to have him inside the Lighthouse, then tell Emmrich to bring him back. Emmrich will accept whatever you choose and will not express any serious regret later in the game.

Bringing Manfred back means that Emmrich loses the chance to become a Lich, which is quite a bummer considering he was very excited to become one since he is afraid of death. The silver lining is that Manfred will be revived and will accompany Emmrich back to the Lighthouse, where the skeleton will begin to learn some prayers and some necromancy skills.

At the end of the quest, Emmrich gets the Engraved Vestments, a legendary armor that grants the Necromancer invulnerability and allows him to deal 50% more damage per detonation at low health. You also get the Life's Embrace skill. If you're in love with Emmrich, you can have an interesting conversation about mortality.

Should Emmrich become a Lich in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

Emmrich finally fulfills his dream of becoming a Lich and achieving immortality, but at Manfred's expense. The friendly skeleton will disappear forever and Emmrich's appearance will change to that of a skeleton. This will trigger a special cutscene where the rest of the companions react to his new appearance.

The new legendary armor he acquires, Lich's Vestige, applies Quietus after detonating on a Sundered enemy and if the enemy is already affected by Necrosis or Quietus, then it deals +200 additional Necrotic damage. The Necromancer also gains the Death's Caress ability. If Rook is in a serious relationship with Emmrich, be careful, as his appearance will change during any romance cutscene.
