I will teach you today How to fix the VAN 185 error in League of Legends?

The VAN error code can appear whenever you try to play League of Legends, and more often than not, it simply means that there is some configuration conflict with Vanguard. The problem is that VAN 185 is a connection error. Most of the time, this occurs due to issues with the League of Legends client, one or more of Vanguard’s services, or even the game itself. This should be a fairly quick and easy fix regarding the VAN 185 issue. Simple solutions like restarting the client and ending sessions from multiple devices can work, Riot Games says, but often they don’t.

1. Riot Games Solution:

Riot Games has a detailed post about all the Vanguard error codes in League of Legends. The post lists over 20 error codes, their common causes, and quick fixes. Regarding VAN 185, the error code can be interpreted as “The issue is possibly caused by letting the League client stay on for more than 7 days or being logged into the client on multiple devices.” According to Riot, VAN 185 issues can be fixed by restarting both the League and Riot clients and checking that a client session is closed on multiple devices. Let’s look at some of the solutions in more detail.

↫ Restart your League and Riot client.

To restart your League and Riot client, close all open accounts and tell the app to not run in the background. Tap the taskbar, click the icon with the arrow pointing up, click the rightmost icon next to the League or Riot client, and select Quit. After you've reported the issue to the client, ask if the issue has been resolved.
Additionally, Riot recommends that none of these clients be left running for more than seven days to avoid some network issues, for example VAN 185 and VAN 0.

↪ Keep your LOL account active on different devices.

Keep this in mind if you have many devices with the same League of Legends account. Sometimes, sharing a file with multiple devices can give you some issues like this Van 185 error. To fix the problem, log out of your League account on all devices except the main one and check if the problem persists.

2. Reinstall Riot Vanguard

Riot Vanguard is the name of the anti-cheat software developed by Riot Games that runs alongside players when they engage in gaming activities with popular games like League of Legends and Valorant. The software monitors your computer for programs and procedures that could indicate problems. However, very often, Vanguard makes mistakes when launching games. In this regard, reinstalling Vanguard usually fixes the problem.

3. Enable Vanguard Services

Enabling Vanguard services is another method to fix the VAN 185 issue. While they are enabled by default, it wouldn't hurt to check them.

Once you have done that, you should do something further. Go back to the Run canvas once again; type msconfig and click OK. Then, on the opened window of System Configuration, click Service, then tick the option showing disable all Microsoft Service, which would make the process easier. Then, find "vgc" and put it on, making sure the status is "Running". Having done this, click Apply followed by OK and restart your computer for changes to take effect.

4. Reinstall League of Legends

The last option that can be tried in case the rest of the options mentioned above do not work and resolve the issue is to reinstall League of Legends. Reinstalling the game would not delete any of your data or settings as it keeps them in your profile and other temporary files of your account. So, reinstalling should not be a problem as long as no changes are made. In view of this, here is how to reinstall League of Legends:

5. Contact support

Your last option is to contact support. Customer support will usually suggest measures that are already available on the site to prevent replays; they will try to explain in detail what they have already tried. You can contact Riot support and League of Legends support; one may be more practical than the other.
