Incompatible or Ink cartridge missing error on Windows 11/10

Common HP printer issues are ink cartridge missing or incompatibility. Both printers may not display the same error message.

You see the following error message on your Brother printer:

Cartridge Problem

While working on a Canon printer, you will come across with various kinds of ink cartridge error messages like:

This ink cartridge is not compatible. U053

or

Some even do not have their correct slots. No. 075 and no. 076

Your Epson printer will display:

The ink cartridge is not recognized by the printer.

When there is some problem with the ink cartridges, the Xerox printer displays different error codes.

Now, let's proceed with the different printers and their techniques of repairing problems concerning ink cartridges. First and foremost, ensure that before proceeding, you didn't purchase the wrong cartridges. If you did, get new ones.

Update the software on your printer

Turn the Power source to the Printer Off

Re-attach the ink cartridges carefully.

Remove the cartridge or the drum and replace it.

Switch off the printer.

Maintain your printer

All these repairs are hereby explained:

1] Update your printer firmware

Outdated firmware is one of the causes that create printer problems. You should try updating the firmware of your printer. Check in the user manual how to update the firmware of your printer. Alternatively, you could check from the website of your printer manufacturer for the latest firmware and follow the procedure from there. In the upgrade of the printer firmware, after downloading the file, execute it, then follow the on-screen instructions.

2] Reset Printer Supply Region

If you already installed original HP ink cartridges and the "Incompatible ink cartridges" message is appearing then you may want to reset the supply region of your printer. Following are the steps to be performed:

To temporarily hide the error message on your HP printer, touch the Hide option available on the Control Panel of your HP printer.

Open the preferences available for the printer. Then click the tab labeled as Printer Maintenance.

Select "Restore" from the menu option.

Then click OK after choosing Printer Supply Region Reset.

3] Reinstall the ink cartridges

It can be that the ink cartridges are out of alignment with the printer or some form of debris has built up on the copper connections of these cartridges and they can't communicate. Take out the ink cartridges from your printer by using the proper removal technique for taking them out. Clean the electrical or copper contacts that are on each cartridge. If your ink cartridges have copper or electrical contacts, wipe them with a lint-free cloth.

4] Reinstall the Drum or Toner cartridge

If the error message related to Drum Cartridge appears, take out the cartridge from your Xerox printer and install it again. First of all, you should allow the priming and copying jobs on your printer to complete. Next, take out the drum cartridge and reinstall it following the instructions. You can take help from the user manual accompanying your Xerox printer.

Here are steps one may follow for Xerox machines using toner cartridges:

To shut down your Xerox machine, hit the secondary power switch. Remove the toner cartridge from within the printer by opening the front door.

Press the major power button and hold it for 30 seconds to disable it.

Press the power button and hold it down for 15 seconds and then power it on. For the time being, power the printer on with the help of the secondary power switch.

When prompted to insert the toner cartridge into the printer, do so. Before placing the cartridge in, clean out the toner slot first

5] Reset your printer

This will reset your printer to its default settings, and the error message should cease showing. How this is done differs from printer to printer, and it may be explained in the user's manual of your printer.

6] Get your printer serviced

As a final resort, if the options above do not work, you may have a few damaged ink cartridges. If you have a friend or family member who has the same kind of printer, you can try making use of compatible ink cartridges. Another option is getting your printer serviced.

That would conclude everything one should know when trying to troubleshoot the Incompatible or Ink cartridge missing error on Windows; we hope we've been much helpful.
