Keep reading to discover How to set or modify EAP method for WiFi on Windows 11, because here we have everything you need.

Wi-Fi networks can't access the Internet due to any issues. However, using different methods, security may be provided for privacy and data protection. EAP or Extensible Authentication Protocol will help to make our wireless network much safer. In this article, we show how to configure and edit EAP Methods while setting up a Wi-Fi connection in Windows 11 or 10.

What is Extensible Authentication Protocol?

EAP furnishes the devices that are connecting to a network with the rules and frameworks to safely confirm their identity. Next to the already set-up authentication methods that EAP comes with, network service providers have the possibility to develop and implement new authentication methods. The preexisting authentication mechanisms are the inner methods, while the providers have developed and created outer methods.

How to Set Up or Switch the EAP Method of WiFi in Windows 11

You can enable an EAP method while creating a Wi-Fi network in Windows 11 or 10 using the Network and Sharing Center with the following steps:

 WiFi EAP profile creation

First, open the Settings app and click on Network and Internet.

Open the Network and Sharing Center to add a new network or connection, and click Connect or Share. In the opened window after one of the connection options, click Manually connect to a wireless network.

After typing in the name of the network, under Security type: select WPA2-Enterprise.

Check the box beside To add the newly configured network, click Next after automatically starting the connection if necessary.

Click Next to open the screen and then select the Change connection options.

Change or modify the WiFi EAP profile

We can't modify the EAP settings from UI once added the network. So, in order to make changes to the settings of a network we will use the option Change connection settings and proceed with the following:

Once you have clicked on the Security tab then click on Settings.

Changed the Network Authentication Method using the drop-down menu. Click Settings to set it.

Next screen-after choosing Authentication Method, click on Configure to setup EAP-MSCHAP v2.

In the pull-down menu, select "Automatically use my Windows log-on name and password (and domain if any)" if you would like to use your Windows domain credentials to log into the network; click OK.

If necessary, select the check box to verify the identity of the server using the certificate. You can also specify one or more server names in this field and then select Connect to these servers. More than one server name should be separated by commas. Finally, click OK to return to the Connection Properties window.

Click OK once you clicked on Advanced Settings on the following box. Then, under Specify Authentication Mode, select User Authentication from the drop-down menu.

Select "Remember my credentials for this connection each time I'm logged on" and then click OK if you want to let it remember login credentials.

Click Close if you want to save your recently changed settings.

You can also get back to the desktop by closing the Settings app.

After having been within range of the newly-configured Wi-Fi network, a click on the Network Connection icon in the system tray pops it up where you can then log into the network by clicking on the network, typing in the username and password, and clicking again.

This concludes all information about how to set up or change the EAP method for WiFi in Windows 11. The above steps will hopefully be as informative as possible for you.
