I will teach you today how to fix the error “The server did not register with DCOM within the required timeout”?

If the system is unable to register one or more Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) applications quickly enough, the error "The server did not register with DCOM within the required timeout" will occur. The computer may slow down or applications may hang due to this. The Windows Event Viewer is the usual place to see this error, which usually occurs when services such as Microsoft Store or Windows components experience communication issues due to delays in DCOM.

How to fix the error “The server did not register with DCOM within the required timeout”?

If the system is unable to register one or more Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) applications quickly enough, the error "The server did not register with DCOM within the required timeout" will occur. The computer may slow down or applications may hang due to this. The Windows Event Viewer is the usual place to see this error, which usually occurs when services such as Microsoft Store or Windows components experience communication issues due to delays in DCOM.

Due to delays in communication between the server and client applications, the DCOM service did not respond within a while, resulting in this error. The most common reasons are incorrect firewall settings, incorrect DCOM permissions, or conflicts with login details.

Services such as Function Discovery starting slowly or conflicting Windows updates are other possible causes.

1.Run the Windows Store troubleshooter.

You cannot register or communicate properly with DCOM if there is a mismatch or corruption in Microsoft Store certificates. The troubleshooter looks for errors or inconsistencies in these certificates and attempts to fix them, which may fix the problem and get everything back to normal.

2. Disable updates from more than one location.

You can save data usage and system load by disabling the option to get updates from many PCs on your network. This will help prevent delays in DCOM registration by freeing up bandwidth that could be consumed by background tasks, including updates. Improving overall system stability, reducing network traffic, and making DCOM communication easier are all goals.

To open Windows Update, use Windows + R, type update control, and then press Enter.

Click Update Settings in the Windows Update window, then click Advanced Options.

Click Delivery Optimization.

Important: If you haven't updated to Creators, click "Choose how updates are delivered" under "Choose how updates are installed."

Next to "Allow downloads from other PCs," turn off the switch. Note: Turn off the feature under Updates from more than one location if you haven't updated to Creators.

Third, change the initial Function Discovery Resource Publishing type. You can prevent system overload at startup by setting the "Function Discovery Resource Publishing" service to Automatic (delayed start). The risk of DCOM registration timeouts will be reduced, and the "server did not register with DCOM" error is avoided with this delay, as critical services are started first.

Note: DCOM will not be disabled by this change. The problem could be caused by a single detailed service startup, which would allow you to avoid DCOM timeouts that normally happen at system startup.

4. Remove third-party antivirus software

Third-party antivirus can cause timeout issues by interfering with DCOM using the communications blocking key. To allow DCOM to work properly, temporarily disabling your antivirus may fix the problem. You can switch to Windows Defender if necessary and it helps to determine if your antivirus is the problem.

5. Enable or Disable DCOM in Component Services

Disabling DCOM in Component Services may prevent the problem if none of the solutions work. As a result, the timeout caused by the system trying to connect to remote components will be avoided. However, only do this if you are sure that they are not essential, and that they are not installed on your computer.the services that need DCOM.
