Method 1: Restricting the YouTube App

Leveraging Screen Time Controls:

Initiate the process by accessing the Settings application on your iPad.

Navigate to the Screen Time section.

Locate Content & Privacy Restrictions and ensure the toggle switch is positioned to on.

Select Content Restrictions to proceed.

Under the Apps category, choose 9+. This age rating effectively prohibits the installation of applications like YouTube (rated 9+) and conceals any existing installations.

Optional Safeguard: Screen Time Passcode To bolster security and prevent unauthorized modifications to these restrictions, you can establish a Screen Time Passcode (Settings > Screen Time > Use Screen Time Passcode). This passcode will be required for any alterations to these settings.

Method 2: Blocking the YouTube Website (Safari Only)

Utilizing Website Restrictions:

Launch the Settings application on your iPad.

Navigate to the Screen Time section.

Locate Content & Privacy Restrictions and ensure it's enabled.

Select Content Restrictions to proceed.

Tap Web Content.

Choose the Limit Adult Websites option. (Note: YouTube is not categorized as an adult website, so additional steps are required.)

Under Never Allow, tap Add Website.

Enter www.youtube.com and tap Add to confirm.

Crucial Considerations:

It's important to remember that these settings are solely applicable to the pre-installed Safari browser. Third-party web browsers may necessitate distinct methods for website blocking.

Selecting "Limit Adult Websites" restricts access to all websites categorized as adult content by Apple. YouTube does not fall under this category.

To safeguard against unauthorized changes to these restrictions, establishing a Screen Time Passcode is highly recommended.

Alternative Approach: Allowed Websites List

An alternative strategy involves creating an "Allowed Websites" list within Screen Time. This method grants access only to pre-approved websites, requiring manual addition of each desired website.

With these measures, you can effectively restrict access to YouTube on your iPad, providing a more secure and controlled digital channel. This is particularly suitable for parents or tutors who can manage the online activity of most young users.
