00:06 - When we started this journey in 2016,
00:08 we set the goal
00:09 of bringing transformative gaming experiences
00:12 to all gamers across the globe.
00:15 Gamers have different priorities and play styles,
00:18 but we all wanna have the same great gaming experience
00:21 with the same catalog of next generation games
00:24 that we can play with our friends,
00:26 regardless of which device we choose to play on.
00:29 To deliver on our ambitions,
00:30 we knew we needed to build two consoles
00:33 with similar next-gen capabilities
00:35 at a differentiated price point.
00:38 By designing two consoles in parallel
00:40 from the very beginning,
00:42 we can deliver the same core gaming experience
00:44 while also making it as easy as possible
00:47 for developers to scale their games
00:49 across both consoles with minimal effort.
00:52 This means that Xbox Series S
00:55 delivers the same incredible next generation experience
00:58 and features as Series X,
01:00 just at a reduced rendering resolution.
01:02 With that in mind,
01:04 I'd like to highlight some of the features
01:05 and performance benefits you can expect
01:08 from Xbox Series S our smallest, most affordable,
01:12 all digital next generation Xbox console.
01:16 Xbox Series S leverages
01:17 the same 8 core Zen 2 CPU architecture as the Xbox Series X,
01:23 running at 3.6 gigahertz and 3.4 gigahertz
01:27 with Simultaneous multithreading enabled.
01:30 The primary difference
01:31 between Xbox Series X and S is the GPU.
01:35 Xbox Series X is designed to deliver
01:37 a next generation gaming experience
01:39 in native 4k at 60 frames per second,
01:43 with support for up to 120 frames per second.
01:47 Series S is designed to deliver
01:49 this same great next gen experience at 1440p,
01:53 also w ith support for up to 120 frames a second.
01:57 It also includes an advanced hardware scaler
02:00 to upscale your games when you're connected to a 4K TV.
02:04 Xbox Series S also has full hardware support
02:07 for AMD's latest RDNA2 feature set,
02:10 including hardware accelerated DirectX Ray Tracing,
02:13 mesh shaders and Variable Rate Shading,
02:16 the exact same as Xbox Series X.
02:19 Xbox Series S contains 10GB of GDDR6 Memory
02:24 running at 224 gigabytes per second,
02:27 scaled inline with the target resolution.
02:30 Both consoles are powered by the Xbox Velocity Architecture,
02:34 which means you can expect the same next generation benefits
02:38 from Xbox Series S, including faster load times,
02:42 consistent and higher frame rates,
02:44 and new features like Quick Resume.
02:47 Xbox Series S advances the state of the art even further
02:51 by adding new innovations,
02:52 such as Sampler Feedback Streaming,
02:54 only possible on our next generation consoles.
02:58 With Sampler Feedback Streaming,
03:00 Xbox Series S is able to load
03:02 only the portions of textures required to render the scene
03:05 just when they are needed.
03:07 It allows games to load texture data
03:09 with a much finer granularity than ever before,
03:12 resulting in a massive leap in I/O and memory efficiency.
03:17 The Xbox Velocity Architecture works in perfect harmony
03:20 with our custom SOC to make this possible,
03:22 including our custom NVMe SSD,
03:26 Dedicated Hardware Decompression Blocks,
03:28 our new Direct Storage API and Sampler Feedback Streaming.
03:33 This enables, on average,
03:34 approximately 2.5 times improvement
03:37 on I/O bandwidth performance and memory utilization
03:41 beyond the raw hardware specifications.
03:44 Developers can use this improved efficiency
03:47 to increase the amount of detail and texture variety,
03:51 or provide additional resources to other systems,
03:53 such as AI.
03:55 This means that next generation games will load much faster,
03:59 texture quality can be significantly increased,
04:02 and quick cuts between scenes are now achievable,
04:05 keeping the player immersed in the game world.
04:08 Here, you can see how much more quickly games can load
04:12 on Xbox Series S.
04:15 The player on Xbox Series S
04:16 is already enjoying The Outer Worlds,
04:19 while the player on Xbox One
04:20 is still waiting for the game to load.
04:24 This is important,
04:25 not just when players launch a game for the first time,
04:28 but every time,
04:29 whether it's time to load in a new level
04:31 or restart from a previous checkpoint
04:33 after a momentary setback,
04:35 Xbox Series S gets you back in the game faster than ever.
04:39 (gunshots blast)
04:44 With Quick Resume, this is how easy it is
04:46 to move from one paused game to another
04:49 and pick up right where you left off.
04:51 (intense music)
04:55 Suspend and Resume made it simple for Xbox One players
04:58 to put their consoles to sleep
05:00 and get back into the game later.
05:02 (intense music continues)
05:05 With Quick Resume, Xbox Series S owners
05:09 can have multiple games in rotation
05:12 and easily move among them in a snap.
05:19 As we said previously,
05:21 we designed Xbox Series S
05:23 to target 1440p as 60 frames per second,
05:26 with support for up to 120 frames per second.
05:30 For a closer look
05:31 at what 120 frames per second means for games,
05:34 let's go over to our friends at The Coalition.
05:38 - When Gears of War made the move
05:40 to 60 frames per second on Xbox One,
05:44 players benefited from higher frame rate, fluid motion,
05:47 and increased gameplay responsiveness,
05:50 which is so essential for a precision multiplayer game,
05:53 like Gears.
05:55 We're excited to announce
05:57 that with next generation gaming on Xbox,
05:59 Gears is taking a huge leap forward,
06:02 beyond 60 frames per second.
06:05 With our update to Gears 5,
06:07 we're bringing 120 frames per second multiplayer
06:11 to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
06:15 At 120 frames per second,
06:17 every reaction and input is translated
06:20 to onscreen action even faster,
06:23 without compromising visual quality.
06:26 The Xbox Series S is more than four times as powerful
06:30 as the Xbox One S.
06:32 It's certainly capable of 120 frames per second
06:35 and we've enabled that with Gears 5,
06:37 without compromising visual quality.
06:41 You really need to play it
06:42 to feel how smooth and responsive the game is,
06:45 as your controls translate into gameplay
06:48 with less than half the latency.
06:50 This is so important for Gears,
06:52 a game that requires precision aiming and shooting,
06:56 high-speed cover movement,
06:58 and twitch-based player versus player battles.
07:02 We cannot wait for you to experience the performance
07:06 of 120 frames per second,
07:08 on both Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.
07:14 - With the Xbox Series X and S,
07:16 your favorite games seamlessly scale across devices,
07:20 while maintaining what's new and innovative
07:22 about our next generation consoles.
07:25 We wanted to make the development process
07:27 as easy as possible for developers around the world
07:30 to build their games for both consoles.
07:33 All the games you see here are running on an Xbox Series S.
07:38 Developers today already use a number of techniques,
07:41 such as dynamic resolution scaling,
07:43 to scale their games across multiple performance profiles
07:47 and the design of Xbox Series X and S
07:50 empowers them to continue to do so,
07:52 without requiring fundamental changes.
07:55 Developers will typically optimize their games
07:57 first for 4K on Series X,
08:00 and then scale down the rendering resolution
08:02 to 1440p for Xbox Series S,
08:05 while still supporting
08:06 all of the other great next gen features.
08:10 With support for all of the same next generation features
08:13 and capabilities in both the Xbox Series X and S,
08:16 developers can focus on delivering
08:18 the same great gaming experience on both consoles
08:22 and their power, speed and performance
08:25 will enable the future of games.
