The extra seats in the atlas allow for more seating for passengers
A little girl saw two extra seats in her family's Volkswagen Atlas and wondered what they could be used for. Maybe the family will get a dog -- or two! Or, those seats might be a familiar face: the family uncle with his beard. The child then imagines that the seats are for someone they haven't met yet, such as their twin sister. While her parents are excited about two new family members, the little girl's mind is full of imagining her new sisters growing up to be knights and robots. Volkswagen says its Atlas has more room for possibility.
We have tall people in our family (I am not) and the Atlas is perfect for that! Very roomy, perfect for long trips (and short ones). We like the way Atlas does it. We checked out the Pilot and Highlander, but found the Atlas to be a great ride (don't like riding foam). Plenty of room for gear (we lugged our skis and bikes) and plenty of room for the dog. The 3rd row is very convenient and easy to use - there is room behind it for groceries.

What the new Volkswagen ad wants to convey is that the Volkswagen Atlas offers more room for possibility. In the ad, a kid wonders what to do with all the available space in the third row of the Atlas model: from dragons and dogs to twin kids. It's a pleasure to watch the ad. The music is calm, maybe even too calm for a car commercial.
Life inside the box isn't so bad when the box is Volkswagen's cavernous three-row Atlas SUV. Unlike many other models in the midsize three-row lineup, the Atlas's rear seat is large enough to accommodate adults comfortably. The Atlas is powered by a 235-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder or a 276-horsepower V-6 and can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Both drivetrains are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and can be ordered with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. While we found the interior materials to be more corporate than rivals like the high-end Kia Telluride and Mazda CX-9, the Atlas' spacious interior makes it more practical thanks to more cargo space when the third row is folded down . If seating and cargo space aren't as important to you as style, the Atlas Cross Sport, which we're reviewing separately, adds a sporty edge to Volkswagen's big German carton.
