Finding the right way to tamp your coffee evenly into the portafilter is an essential part of the process towards making great-tasting coffee. By tamping correctly and trimming the dose, you will prevent water from escaping the group head during extraction, making sure that all of the rich flavours from your coffee beans transcend into your coffee cup.
Directions:
1. Once you have freshly ground beans in the filter basket, tamp down firmly. As a guide, the top edge of the metal cap on the tamper should be level with the top of the filter basket.
2. After the coffee has been tamped, trim the dose by inserting the razor trimming tool into the filter basket until the shoulders of the tool rest on the rim of the basket. Rotate the razor trimming tool back and forth whilst holding the portafilter on an angle.
