00:00 Hey, I'm Mark Wahlberg.
00:01 And I'm Winston Duke.
00:02 We are gonna take you through a scene
00:03 in Spenser Confidential.
00:05 Shot by shot.
00:29 Here we are, going to my favorite restaurant.
00:32 My character's just out of prison and he hasn't...
00:34 he took me to a, like a, health food restaurant
00:37 trying to get me to eat some soy shit.
00:39 And he was not with it at all.
00:40 Yeah, my character wasn't eating it,
00:41 so I'm gonna try to go for
00:42 some real good, ol’ Boston Mexican food,
00:44 even though I've never seen a Mexican restaurant in Boston.
00:49 This was in Quincy, Mass,
00:51 right on Furnace Brook Parkway.
00:54 I drove by that place many, many times
00:57 for years and years and years.
00:58 But I am very familiar with the people working here,
01:00 and slowly, but surely
01:02 we are going to realize that we're being followed
01:05 by some very dangerous individuals.
01:07 Yeah, you know what I need, four burritos.
01:09 Four burritos.
01:10 Carne asada,
01:11 - and a pollo. - Carne asada.
01:13 Puerco and you know what, chorizo.
01:15 Chorizo.
01:18 That guy right there, is an amazing stuntman.
01:20 I worked with him in Planet of the Apes.
01:21 I am very familiar with the stuntmen
01:23 who worked on this movie.
01:25 We’ve done multiple movies together
01:27 starting with Lone Survivor.
01:28 Oh, and there’s this guy listening to music.
01:30 Are you really listening to music,
01:31 - what are you doing? - I had nothing
01:32 - in my ear. - What kind of acting
01:33 - technique are you using? - They were actually telling
01:34 me to like just make up and do it slow, so they could add
01:37 - any kind of music. - Okay, here comes
01:39 the dangerous individual.
01:42 - Wife is good? - Yeah.
01:43 What about a, quesadilla?
01:47 Oh, if you want quesadilla,
01:49 just gotta wait on the tortilla.
01:53 Quesadilla.
01:58 Oh, my wife, Julia.
01:59 Oh, she's so great.
02:09 Wow, the tension is building.
02:12 Oh, I notice a weapon on his hip.
02:13 - And here comes one more guy. - What's that weapon?
02:15 Now look at the reflection, look at the reflection.
02:17 - Here comes the duck! - Machete.
02:18 Boom!
02:18 That was a real punch.
02:19 That one's a fake block.
02:21 He stabs his own guy.
02:22 Flip over the counter.
02:23 Oh, I’m about to stab this guy.
02:25 Oh yeah, take that in the leg.
02:26 Look at that! Rip him off. Snap.
02:29 I’m about to hit this guy with everything I can grab.
02:31 Food, cups, mugs.
02:32 - Take that! - Boom. Throw him through it.
02:34 And there's my partner, still listening to music.
02:36 Why does Winston
02:36 get to sit in the car
02:37 and I gotta do all this fighting?
02:38 Why don't I sit in the car?
02:40 Yeah, that was really my thing.
02:42 I would wonder, those were
02:43 - some of the thoughts - That wasn't a
02:44 - stunt double napping. - going through my head.
02:45 We didn't really rehearse this scene at all,
02:47 we kinda went in, it was pre-choreographed,
02:50 and then we were actually shooting in pieces.
02:52 So, we would kind of just show me
02:54 in the morning what the scene looked like,
02:57 and then we’d get all these guys,
02:58 and we’d go at it.
03:00 We shot this scene pretty much in a day
03:02 at the actual restaurant.
03:04 And then we had an interior built
03:06 on a soundstage where we picked up little pieces
03:08 and some inserts and stuff like that.
03:21 And where is my partner in crime?
03:23 - They've got me now. - And boom!
03:24 - Oh, finally, he shows up. - Here comes Hawk,
03:26 - busting through the window. - Oh, but
03:28 I tell you what, that's not good.
03:29 I did not drive the car through
03:32 You didn't?
03:32 the, I didn't do the driving through.
03:33 - Oh, boo. - That was a stunt double.
03:35 To make sure that everything was safe,
03:38 and then I got in the car and did the acting.
03:40 Yo, get in.
03:44 Now all I’m worried about, is the car.
03:48 Shit!
03:51 You're in big trouble.
03:52 For what?
03:53 You smashed the Riviera into a restaurant!
03:55 - Get the fuck in the car! - I’m telling Henry
03:56 you were driving the car.
03:59 Was that really your foot during that insert?
04:01 That was my foot.
04:02 That was my real foot.
04:03 That's when you know an actor is committed
04:04 when he is actually doing the foot
04:05 in inserts.
04:06 When I’m doing my own foot inserts,
04:08 that's how you know it's real.
04:09 But, the drive off and everything, was real.
04:12 I did all that driving, coming out.- advertisement spot 2020
