00:00 Hi, my name is Elle Fanning and I play Violet
00:02 in "All the Bright Places."
00:06I truly grew up on film sets.
00:08 I never had formal "acting" training so
00:11everything that I learned from moviemaking
00:14 was just purely from being on set
00:16 and watching everyone around me.
00:17 Acting was always so fun for me
00:20 when I was a kid 'cause
00:21 my sister and I would dress up, make pretend,
00:23 and basically do scenes, and that's what
00:25 being on a film set felt like when I was young.
00:27 It was like, "Oh, I get to do this on camera."
00:30 So, I just always felt super comfortable.
00:32 As an actor, that is like my love and my passion,
00:35 but you can't determine what takes
00:36 they're gonna use.
00:37 You can't determine how they're gonna edit.
00:39 So...
00:40 being an actress in it wasn't enough.
00:44 "All the Bright Places" is the very first film that
00:46 I get to have a producer credit on.
00:48 It was so personal I needed to-
00:50 I needed to have more control!
00:53 Is that a sense of humor you're hiding in there?
00:55 I've obviously grown up
00:56 and I've grown into myself more.
00:58 I actually feel comfortable asserting my voice,
01:00 and saying, "Hey, like I read this book
01:02 and I really like it, I think it should
01:04 be out in the world," and
01:05 I feel like I just have this confidence now
01:08 to be able to-
01:09 wanna produce and develop my own projects.
01:11 I also just love experiencing new things.
01:15 Producing doesn't end after the film is finished.
01:18 People think that,
01:19 "Alright, like the film is all on footage."
01:21 That's when it just begins for a lot of people.
01:23 I watched different cuts of the movie,
01:24 you know, made notes on input and
01:26 and editing, and then songs, you know, music.
01:29 You know, you have to stay on it
01:30 and make sure that it gets
01:31 handled the right way.
01:32 What was so beautiful about this process is
01:33 there's like so many people that kind of
01:35 brought me into this and I had such a
01:37 support system and being like
01:38 a first-time producer, like,
01:40 "What do I do?" You know, being scared.
01:42 But also you realize the best producers,
01:44 and even the best directors,
01:46 they lean on everyone else.
01:48 I just learned a lot of things like,
01:49 "Wow!" You get to discover so many creative
01:52 people in the producing process
01:53 'cause you're looking at so many parts
01:55 and trying to
01:56 put it together to make the best story possible.
01:59 It's a very rewarding feeling
02:01 bringing so many people together.
02:02 I love it and I hope I get to do it more.
02:05 I wanna go again.
