Kellogg and TNC are proud to support this effort. 00:02 [Music] 00:07 meet 00:07 carter morgan a farmer and conservation 00:10 leader along the illinois 00:11 indiana border i would be considered a 00:13 fourth generation farmer 00:15 i like farm corn soybeans and wheat 00:18 on about 2 700 acres carter is a 00:21 participant 00:22 and advocate for the star program 00:25 kellogg and the nature conservancy are 00:28 collaborating to support this program 00:30 and have added 50 additional farmers and 00:33 more than 31 000 00:35 acres of illinois farmland since 2019 00:39 helping to stop land erosion improve 00:41 water quality 00:42 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions star 00:45 is a really useful 00:47 tool for farmers to evaluate fields by 00:50 field 00:51 how their management choices impact our 00:54 local 00:55 natural resources so it's just a 00:58 one-page 00:58 or two-page sheet 01:01 that you just self-assess um 01:05 how well you're doing and you get a 01:07 one-to-five star rating 01:09 back hopefully that'll get them thinking 01:11 and asking 01:12 why did they get that score and how can 01:14 they improve their score 01:16 farmers like to talk to farmers they 01:18 want to know what the next guy is doing 01:20 down the road 01:21 why is it working for them how is it 01:23 working for them that's where we can 01:24 have 01:25 open dialogue about maybe you could 01:27 start to implement some 01:28 more conservation practices maybe that's 01:30 waterways maybe that's cover crops maybe 01:32 it's no-till 01:33 the hope with that is hopefully will 01:36 help move conservation forward at a more 01:39 rapid price 01:40 thanks in part to kellogg's support 01:43 cover cropping 01:44 implemented by star farmers has 01:46 prevented more than 01:47 5 440 tons 01:50 of co2 from entering the atmosphere 01:54 that's the equivalent of removing 13 01:57 million vehicle miles off the road 02:00 kellogg's support of the star program is 02:02 a part of 02:03 a larger collaboration that we have with 02:05 the nature conservancy 02:07 to support u.s farmers we are committed 02:10 to supporting farmers to become more 02:12 climate resilient 02:15 to promote conservation agriculture 02:17 practices that really help 02:19 promote soil health and encourage 02:22 biodiversity on farm- advertisement spot 2020
