for years 0:11 we're going to shoot it in Norway and 0:13 it'll be a motorcycle jump off a cliff 0:15 into a base jump 0:18 I want to do it since I was a little kid 0:20 it all comes down to one thing 0:23 the audience 0:32 there's a lot going into this stunt so 0:34 Tom put together this master plan to 0:36 coordinate all of these experts in each 0:38 of the particular disciplines involved 0:40 to make this whole thing happen John and 0:42 I are jumping out of the helicopter he's 0:44 gonna chase me as we say to each other 0:46 don't be careful be confident be 0:49 confident 0:51 a year of Base training Advanced Skydive 0:54 training a lot of canopy skills a lot of 0:56 tracking Tom Cruise these amazing 0:58 individuals you tell them something and 1:00 he just locks it in his sense of spatial 1:03 awareness he's the most aware person 1:05 I've ever met 1:07 lots of practice on stability and Free 1:09 Fall trekking with John and miles in the 1:11 air doing lots of different positioning 1:13 like there were two men team in the air 1:14 coming on top of each other below each 1:16 other backtracking front tracking you 1:17 know we've drilled and drilled and 1:18 drilled 1:21 when you do a lot of jumps back to back 1:22 the canopy control skills improve a lot 1:25 we have three open canopies which is a 1:27 good thing 1:28 the training has gone really well it's 1:30 Progressive massive views 1:33 how are you great day man this is the 1:36 next part of training right here 1:37 Motocross let's do it 1:40 so we built a motocross track 1:44 getting comps in the Motocross so he's 1:46 comfortably jumping 70 80 foot tabletop 1:49 great time in the air great positioning 1:51 on the bike and Landing world I hope to 1:53 get so good at this that there's just no you're 2:22 going over the camera yes very cool 2:25 [Music] 2:27 train and drill every little aspect over 2:30 and over and over and over again they 2:33 were doing 30 jumps a day getting to a 2:36 point where he was just a machine I mean 2:38 over 500 skydoms 2:40 that's what we do over 13 000 Motocross 2:45 jumps 2:47 oh it's gonna be fun oh it's great 2:50 replicated this ramp in England at a 2:52 quarry we filled the Quarry with 2:54 cardboard boxes which were there to 2:56 catch the motorcycle the reason why we 2:58 did that is so that Tom could simulate 3:00 the jungle how fast should I go off what 3:03 distance do I travel we built models of 3:07 different ramps at different angles to 3:09 calculate what Tom's trajectory would be 3:12 we have to be able to consistently 3:14 predict where Tom is going to be in 3:16 three-dimensional space we're going to 3:18 have a GPS chip on me and that recorded 3:21 every single one of Tom's jumps along 3:23 with his ground speed whether there was 3:26 a headwind whether there was a crosswind 3:28 and by doing this multiple times we were 3:30 able to get a consistent set of data so 3:33 that each take we can see what height I 3:35 am so this way we can set drones and 3:37 cameras in places where I can go right 3:39 into closer rule one don't hit me 3:43 because if we do it all we don't capture 3:45 it right what's the point let's do it 3:47 guys ready yep always grab my earplugs 3:50 so I don't hear myself scream 3:54 we are already ready 3:59 the key is me hitting certain speeds and 4:02 being consistent with that there's no 4:03 speedometer so I do it by sound and feel 4:06 of the bike 4:09 and then as I depart the bike I'm 4:11 choosing the wind that's hitting me here 4:13 and I'm cupping my chest that will give 4:15 me lifts 4:21 [Music] 4:29 for your help guys 4:33 foreign 4:37 [Applause] 4:49 Norway 4:51 we've been constructing this ramp over a 4:54 number of months everything here has to 4:56 be brought in by helicopter engineers 4:58 and technicians it's incredible what 5:01 they've done this is masterful today is 5:04 day one of principal photography and we 5:06 are starting in classic mission Forum 5:08 with the biggest stunt in the film what 5:10 we're doing here is I'm just doing jumps 5:12 just to warm up the body let's do it 5:14 just to get my tracking going and make 5:17 sure everything's working all right I'll 5:19 try not to smile 5:21 foreign 5:22 gets down and puts a parachute around 5:24 and goes and does the bike job he'll 5:27 actually know the weather conditions in 5:29 this area in the valley and on the 5:30 ground 5:32 [Music] 5:34 and then he asks the season to deploy a 5:36 parachute 5:37 now he's in a rock ball with walls all 5:40 around him and he's got to fly out of it 5:48 of course you know when something's been 5:50 done for the first time you can't help 5:52 but worry a little bit about how it's 5:53 really going to turn out with a jump 5:55 like this the challenge is finding the 5:57 cameras it's the amount of preparation 5:59 and then it's weather you want the light 6:00 to be right you want the clouds to be 6:02 right Misty but not foggy this weather 6:05 right here is exactly what we're looking 6:06 for 6:07 about 10 minutes away from coming up 6:09 here landing and doing the actual time 6:11 sounds good we're in motion see you soon 6:14 while doing a stunt like this 6:24 is a serious injury or death here we go 6:27 you're riding a motorcycle which is 6:29 pretty dangerous on top of a ramp that's 6:32 elevated off the ground so if you come 6:34 off the ramp that's going to be very bad 6:36 you're falling if you don't get a clean 6:39 exit from the bike and you get tangled 6:41 up with it if you don't open your 6:42 parachute then
