Featuring stories from Oprah Winfrey, Issa Rae, Chlöe Bailey, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, Marsai Martin and Chika. 0:01 what's up everybody I am Tiffany Renee I 0:04 am absolutely in love with the 0:06 versatility of black hair my last five 0:08 years I really grew to like love my hair 0:10 step into like my black Womanhood more 0:12 because my hair was like a statement on 0:14 site 0:15 so that's my hair story now I want to 0:17 hear some of yours 0:19 so let's get into the Nostalgia of black 0:22 hair like tell me about a time when you 0:23 were younger and you had a meaningful 0:25 moment or a meaningful person that helps 0:28 you like shape your narrative around how 0:30 you feel about your black hairs 0:32 um well that's interesting kind of 0:34 multi-faceted I think growing up in the 0:37 South straight hair was the big thing 0:39 right there was no natural hair 20 years 0:42 ago when I was in college or right it 0:44 was definitely forbidden when I was 0:46 small enough to be in elementary school 0:48 so it was always a situation where if 0:50 you had to go somewhere you always had 0:51 to straighten the hair right I went to 0:53 the beauty shop like most of us like 0:54 once a week are always for special 0:56 occasions but it was never something 0:58 that I loved right so by the time I got 1:01 old enough to really control my hair I 1:03 was like nah this isn't it like very 1:05 early in the game so at that time when 1:08 my mom was sort of allowed me to kind of 1:10 do my own hair I was probably like first 1:12 starting high school and this is early 1:15 90s so like I wash my hair now and I 1:18 wear it in braids and that'll point in 1:19 time I would never have never have been 1:22 seen outside in protective hairstyles 1:25 but at this point child is part of the 1:27 look okay so if you see me move with 1:30 four plaits in the cap on then that's 1:31 what it is for the day and that's it so 1:33 at this point in my life like 25 30 1:37 years into understanding what hair is to 1:40 me I fully accepted whatever it comes in 1:42 like I'm not I do not limit myself to 1:45 what my mother or my father or my 1:47 grandmother always wanted me to do in 1:49 terms of representing what my hair 1:51 should look like 1:53 foreign 1:59 [Music] Hulu actress 2022 • Hulu song name • - advertisement spot 2022
