The HBO series The Last of Us is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated video game adaptations of the past decade. The game was an undeniable success and is still fresh. Adaptations of hugely popular video games rarely seem to capture the game's magic and success. Did this TLOU series fall into the same trap, or did it succeed where many failed? Read on for my thoughts on the premiere episode of The Last of Us. But "The Last of Us," which premiered Sunday, is a 90-minute episode of a Prestige series based on a Prestige video game, and the difference in quality makes the story unique. That's not to say that horrific fight scenes are a bad thing, or that this version of The Last of Us is a tame story. The living undergo horrific transformations when bitten by the infected, and smashing the undead is a bloody pastime. (Damn, is it satisfying?)

Romero didn't like this.

"It's a big time warp," he said of the game's sequel. "But there's an interesting bit of flexibility. The amazing things that makeup can do. We don't get too involved in those things. As long as people are drawn to the story, I think there's some flexibility." "People see bad adaptations, and that lends credence to the idea that games are childish," Druckmann told THR about video game adaptations. "I like the idea that someone can look at it and be struck by it and say, 'Wait, is this based on a video game?'"
