Check out more helpful tips with us in our H-E-B Texas Tails playlist and visit your H-E-B pet aisle for everything for your fur family or explore more online. 00:00 hi I'm Stacie with heb and I'm here with 00:01 Cassie and Karen Dean's certified dog 00:03 behavior consultant Karen what are we 00:04 going to be discussing today 00:06 we're going to talk about ways to 00:07 exercise your dog's brain Ward dogs are 00:23 going to find ways to entertain 00:24 themselves by chewing digging barking 00:27 out the window being destructive and 00:29 basically getting into trouble 00:31 they say that mental stimulation and 00:33 mental exercise is six times as tiring 00:35 as physical exercise dogs have to eat so 00:39 maybe we use their food to enrich their 00:41 lives there is more than one way to feed 00:43 your dog you don't have to just feed 00:45 them out of one bowl you can feed them 00:47 out of 15 little bowls or 15 settings of 00:51 one Bowl so that the dog is actually 00:53 hunting for their food when playing 00:55 hunting games start very easy let the 00:58 dog see where you place the ball then 01:00 slowly progress to make it harder and 01:02 harder by hiding the bowl in different 01:04 places at a house that's a really great 01:06 way to build a strong relationship but 01:08 it's also mentally tiring for your dog 01:10 it is hunting for their food and you're 01:13 tapping into that natural instinct of 01:15 they're seeking system taunt a dog sense 01:19 of smell is the most predominant scent 01:20 in a dog's body we can really tap into 01:23 that even on a day to day basis by using 01:26 different ways to let them hunt for 01:27 their food make it harder and harder so 01:30 they get to use their nose all dogs like 01:32 to use their sense of smell it's about 01:34 two hundred thousand times stronger than 01:36 the human sense of smell brain games can 01:40 be as simple as using an egg carton here 01:43 we have some yummy treats hidden inside 01:44 the egg carton and we want to see if 01:46 they can figure out how to open it here 01:48 we get to watch them figure out how to 01:50 get to the food inside will they use 01:53 their mouth will they use their feet 01:55 will they use both are they going to 01:58 shred it are they gonna open it this is 02:00 a nice brain game they are solving a 02:03 puzzle a bit they're starting to get 02:05 more into it using their mouth a little 02:07 bit more use it the nose to find those 02:09 yummy pieces of sausage 02:11 this type of brain game will build 02:13 confidence as well as satisfy that 02:15 natural instinct of hunting for food 02:17 thanks for joining us 02:18 visit your GP for everything Hut click 02:22 here to subscribe for more h-e-b Texas 02:25 tails- advertisement spot 2020
