This team is ready to conqHER all stereotypes and show that baseball is a sport for everyone. #conqHER #Eastbay. 00:06 my name is Alex Hugo and I play second 00:09 base for the USA team 00:10 I'm Malaika Underwood I play first base 00:12 my name is Maggie mine leer and I'm a 00:14 pitcher 00:15 my name is Veronica Alvarez I am the 00:17 manager of the women's national team for 00:19 USA baseball baseball is a man's game 00:29 [Applause] 00:30 not many people know that women's 00:33 baseball does 00:34 it's like shocking and disappointing 00:37 that so little people know that we have 00:39 a women's national team how many times 00:42 have I told someone's that I play on the 00:44 USA baseball women's national team and 00:46 they say oh you mean softball not a baby 00:57 I'm first-generation American born Cuban 01:00 in the Cuban culture you come out of the 01:02 womb and and if you're a boy you have 01:04 big legs you're gonna be a catcher and 01:06 if you're a girl you're born here pretty 01:08 much given earrings and sent on your 01:10 merry way 01:10 I chose both lives I was born with big 01:12 legs and a pair of earrings I picked up 01:15 baseball like every little boy I played 01:17 sports all growing up I played every 01:19 sport I could in high school became the 01:21 first female in the state of Virginia to 01:23 win a varsity baseball game my sophomore 01:25 year and then come my senior year I 01:27 pitched a perfect game 01:28 I was the NCAA Division one home run 01:30 leader in 2014 01:32 I've played in ten international 01:34 competitions for USA baseball which is 01:37 more than any player man or woman 01:41 hey watch it hit it 01:43 there you go I mean there's definitely 01:45 the adversity that we all face as far as 01:47 all being women in baseball if you were 01:50 good at a sport or good at sports in 01:52 general then people kind of I guess 01:54 deemed you as a tomboy if you're 01:56 passionate about something and you love 01:58 something deeply I mean you're not gonna 02:00 give up on it easily and to me that was 02:02 baseball 02:03 I just miss playing and thought there 02:09 has to be a way for me to get back into 02:11 this I didn't find out about Team USA 02:13 till the end of my high school career I 02:15 really thought I was alone in the game 02:16 being the only female giving girls an 02:19 outlet with somewhere to go to do that 02:22 that's what really drew me in and it 02:24 became much more than just you know 02:26 women throwing on a field and maybe a 02:28 little bit like a league of their own to 02:29 come to find out that there's other 02:30 girls doing this all across the country 02:32 was just super encouraging for me the 02:35 Women's National Team is showing that at 02:38 a high level women can play a game that 02:43 in our society is often associated only 02:47 with men girls do actually play baseball 02:49 and in school conquer to me means that 02:58 girls can do anything that it doesn't 03:01 make you different to do what you want 03:02 to do it's okay to dominate in whatever 03:05 sport you're playing conquer means not 03:08 giving up you can't let anything get in 03:10 your way the Women's National Team I 03:12 feel has a lot to conquer in the next 03:14 few years 03:15 one being winning the Women's World Cup 03:17 win gold and 03:19 what conquering is about we are out 03:22 there playing the game on the highest 03:24 stage in the world don't take no for an 03:27 answer and go out there to to mow 03:29 everybody down 03:31 we're not here to mess around or to play 03:33 a little baseball we're here to rule the 03:35 entire frickin world it's a man's game 03:42 wammy time- advertisement spot 2020
