We're currently hiring for software engineers, product managers, product designers, and more! 0:04 what made me interested in dingo was the 0:06 mission the mission is to develop the 0:09 best education in the world and make it 0:11 universally available a few years ago 0:13 dualingo was being used all across 0:15 Europe by Syrian refugees around that 0:18 same time I learned that Bill Gates was 0:21 using dualingo which just meant that 0:22 more money could not buy you a better 0:24 system I feel good about the fact that 0:26 no matter how people are using our app 0:29 it could be making a huge lifechanging 0:32 impact for it could just be making their 0:34 commute a little bit more fun I like 0er 0:36 to1 building for product I enjoy that 0:38 chase of trying to make something work 0:40 and bring it to life and have it have 0:42 value to a user somewhere do remember 0:44 that first summer as an intern I had 0:46 worked on a course and then we rolled it 0:48 out and suddenly they said oh yeah like 0:50 1.5 million people saw this my like chin 0:54 hit the floor I couldn't believe it our 0:56 users are extremely diverse not only are 0:58 they from every single country the world 1:00 they every age every socioeconomic 1:02 status Etc so we try to do that inside 1:05 the company we want to reflect our users 1:07 in our Workforce of the 10 first 1:10 employees at dual lingo only two were 1:12 Americans as a queer engineer felt very 1:14 empowering to work in these stories 1:16 where we highlighted queer stories we 1:17 had CER characters I've only been on 1:19 teams that were LED entirely by women 1:22 it's pretty rare of course we hire in 1:25 many different functions and we look for 1:27 different things for different functions 1:28 but one is something exceptional so for 1:30 example first person to have gone to 1:32 college in your family that's pretty 1:34 exceptional you designed your first um I 1:37 don't know mock of an app when you were 1:39 12 years old that's pretty exceptional 1:41 generally the culture is pretty 1:43 welcoming and pretty nice we have this 1:46 really unique thing here where we 1:47 actually stop meetings for lunch every 1:49 single day on the first day it was 1:51 almost like being in the lunchroom when 1:53 you're in middle school and you walk in 1:55 and you don't know anybody and then 1:56 somebody was like oh Megan like come sit 1:58 with us like honestly every single day I 2:00 felt comfortable sitting at whatever 2:02 table I wanted to dualingo you worked 2:05 very closely with the PM the designer we 2:08 really all just work together on 2:10 implementing a feature uh or a new 2:13 product I was co-leading a product area 2:16 with an engineering director and he very 2:19 excitedly had a baby and went out on 2:21 Parental leave and left me in charge of 2:24 the area which was one of the scariest 2:27 things um because I'm a designer and um 2:30 the majority of the area were engineers 2:32 our senior executive team really saw 2:35 that I was going to be stretched and 2:37 they really rallied around me you know 2:39 there were several engineering directors 2:41 that said like hey always put time on my 2:43 calendar we're always available we all 2:45 just try to figure out together and I 2:49 think we're used to that because we do a 2:51 lot of things that no one know like what 2:53 a solution 2:55 is we have the largest data of people 2:59 learning language anges in the world um 3:01 actually probably learning anything in 3:03 the world how can you leverage that to 3:05 teach better is one of the big questions 3:08 I think we've only started to scratch 3:10 the surface on what we can do the reason 3:12 I'm still here is because I'm certain 3:14 that the best days of dual Engle are 3:15 still ahead of us
