VIDEO Cirque du Soleil Day in the Life | Cirque du Soleil at Sea: Show Operations Director on MSC Cruises TV commercial 2019 • 00:03 So, it’s incredibly rare to have such high-quality acrobatics 00:08 happening on a moving stage. 00:10 I’m Mandie Harms, the Show Operations Director 00:13 for Cirque du Soleil at Sea on MSC Meraviglia. 00:16 The base of the position is General Stage Manager; 00:20 it’s calling shows, creating schedules, managing artists, dealing with trainings… 00:24 On top of that we, have part company management, 00:27 part relationships with our partners, 00:30 a little bit of artistic direction, a little bit of everything else. 00:33 So, it’s sort of a combination role 00:34 that allows you to touch all parts of our business. 00:37 This is a position you’re gonna wanna to come into 00:39 if you’ve been working as a General Stage Manager, 00:42 a Calling Stage Manager, 00:43 and you have a growth understanding of that position. 00:46 You have the support of shoreside to put you in the right place 00:49 and in contact with the right people, 00:51 so that you’re never really by yourself, 00:52 but you do have the opportunity to come up with the new ideas, 00:55 come up with the decisions. 00:58 So on the ship, you become a really tight-knit group. 01:00 We’re a bit smaller of a crew, 01:02 and so we end up relying on each other a lot. 01:05 So, we really have an opportunity to teach each other. 01:08 You have the resident show side; 01:10 we’re not trying to recreate our rigging system every other month, 01:14 but you also get to travel. 01:15 So, you’re able to go into these places, get talk to new people, 01:19 and you have some of that experience where 01:21 there’s always something new and exciting to do. 01:23 But because we go to the same places every week, 01:25 you have these opportunities to become a local in each place. 01:29 So, there’s a coffee shop in Barcelona where the barista knows my order. 01:32 And there’s a small pastry shop in Valletta we go to every week. 01:36 So, you really get the best of all of the worlds. 01:39 Within Cirque du Soleil at Sea, 01:41 we have a bunch of benefits that really help us live a quality life on board, 01:46 but we have those access to spaces 01:47 that really make the entire ship feel like home. 01:51 This is really an extravagant project. 01:54 Fortunately, we have years of experience in cruise industry through MSC, 01:59 and we have our years of experience with Cirque du Soleil backing us up. 02:04 We’re able to pull from that experience from both sides 02:07 to really help us create this project 02:09 that is completely new and different. - advertisement spot 2019
