At Capital One, we’re focused on creating a better bank — one that is built around you — and that starts with truly listening. We’ve partnered with talented artists and performers to host a series of interactive listening experiences in five cities across the country. At our Listen In event in Union Square with AJR, the New York City community heard first-hand what inspires this band of brothers, and how the power of listening has shaped their music. 00:01 No matter how many times you say something to somebody, 00:03 If they don’t feel anything with what you’re saying, 00:06 then it’s just going to kind of wash over them. 00:08 That emotive part kind of embeds itself within them 00:10 and allows the message that you’re conveying 00:13 to really stick with them. 00:18 Let’s welcome AJR. 00:22 What does listening mean to each of you? 00:25 I think for us, listening is about active participation, 00:29 showing people that you’re really engaged 00:31 with what they’re saying. 00:32 How do you feel when you’re really listening to someone, 00:35 when you’re really engaged? 00:37 I find that you’re really like people more 00:40 It’s like you give people the benefit of the doubt. 00:42 Everyone’s better when they’re not strangers anymore. 00:44 Well not being strangers, and feeling like you relate, 00:47 and feeling like you belong, 00:49 These are really powerful outcomes of listening. 00:51 We’ve always been really interested in 00:52 conveying emotion In different ways. 00:55 Just to be able to make someone 00:56 feel something that they weren’t feeling before 00:58 is kind of our favorite thing in the world. 01:01 I think my best tip to be a better listener 01:03 would be to just actually listen. 01:05 If someone’s talking to you, 01:06 look them in the eye, 01:08 reciprocate, 01:09 and be attentive, 01:12 > be present. 01:13 To really engage with people and 01:14 to ask follow up questions and, 01:16 speak about what they’re speaking about. 01:19 Don’t just kind of go off on your own topic. 01:21 Just really engage with what you’re hearing. - advertisement spot 2018
