Join the artist and Erin O'Connor MBE as they witness the piece in person. 00:07 So here we are in the magnificent Musee d'Orsay 00:10 from Rome to Paris with love. 00:23 I am very proud to be here tonight to celebrate 00:27 an amazing partnership between BVLGARI and Francesco Vezzoli. 00:31 A piece of literature comes to life. 00:33 Thanks to Francesco's creativity and BVLGARI mastery 00:42 This turtle is a magnificient metaphor for 00:44 this exhibition dedicated to Joris-Karl Huysmans. 00:48 This exhibition is divided in three sections. 00:51 The first section is dedicated to Huysmans as an art critic. 00:55 He supported vehemently and strongly all the most important impressionist painters. 01:01 The second room is dedicated to his most important literary masterpiece, called ‘À rebours’. 01:06 The main character of ‘À rebours’, was a dandy, called Jean des Esseintes 01:10 and he actually owns in the book a turtle. 01:14 And in order for the turtle to reflect the colours of his beautiful carpets, 01:18 he covers this turtle with diamonds. 01:28 For me I think the union between Francesco Vezzoli and the house of BVLGARI 01:32 is one of quite monumental proportions, it goes beyond just an Italian story 01:38 but it’s the European story. 01:39 We are here in Musee d’Orsay and this exhibition really opens up many many historical references 01:46 and channels and Francesco’s work that we are seeing here today is something that’s open 01:52 and given to the public as a grand gesture, it’s also a speaking of a very mythological element 01:59 in the Huysmans book, ‘À rebours’. 02:02 So, it takes on a proportion that translates history into something very contemporary, 02:09 which I think in a ways is a very BVLGARI notion. 02:11 And, that's something that always reflected in Francesco’s work. 02:17 The relationship between the two is so playful and it’s one of real friendship and trust. 02:22 I think if you gonna collaborate together on such a unique project, you need a real coming togetherness. 02:29 I think, the combination of BVLGARI, as an iconic brand, is something we can all marvel. 02:35 But with Francesco, his background in art and the contemporary world he inhabits 02:40 means, at the end result is just a piece of heaven. 02:42 In fact, it’s a turtle! 02:45 I would think of somebody like Pharrell Williams. 02:49 I think Pharrell wears menswear, womenswear, hats and everything else 02:56 just like the dandies in the 19th century did. 02:59 And he does it with very fierce attitude. 03:02 So, he is the only person I can think of that could wear the same shoes.- advertisement spot 2019
