If you don't know how to fix the classpnp.sys BSOD error in Windows, here we leave you this guide that will help you.

When using a computer, some users may encounter the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with the error code "SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION". This happens when the 'classpnp.sys' file fails. This file is of the essential system that manages plug-and-play hardware devices connected to the computer.

The same error occurs when an unsupported device is connected to the computer, resulting in problems with the classpnp.sys file and, consequently, BSOD. It can also be caused by corrupted drivers, problems with system files or hardware incompatibilities.

Remember that before doing anything, you must boot into Safe Boot, as Windows crashes as soon as you boot into Windows, triggering classpnp.sys and causing BSOD.

Then restarting your computer a few (3-5) times will load it into Advanced Startup, from where you can safely boot into Windows.

Once you have done the above you must follow these steps:

Click Troubleshoot.
Select Advanced Options.
Click Startup Settings.
Press the F4 key to boot into safe mode.

Later, once safe mode is loaded, you must do the following:

1. Run SFC and DISM
SFC scans and repairs corrupt system files, while DISM verifies that the Windows image is correct by:

Open the Search menu, type cmd, and then start the command prompt as administrator.
Enter the following commands: sfc /scannow Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Once the scans are done, restart your computer.

2. Updating drivers to their latest version ensures that your device works with updated drivers, potentially solving the problem, to do this:

Click on the search bar, type Device Manager and open it.
Right click on each piece of hardware and select Update Driver.

3. Remove third-party antivirus as this may create conflicts with drivers, resulting in this error. It is advisable to uninstall any third-party antivirus and use Windows.

4. Check for faulty hardware, it is recommended to disconnect any recently connected devices that may be causing the problem. This will prevent the file from being activated, which may fix this issue.

5. Change the name of the classpnp.sys file. If it acts incorrectly, one step to solve the problem may be to rename it. This action forces Windows to replace the problematic file with a new, error-free version by:

Restart your computer a few (3-5) times to load Advanced Startup as you cannot access Windows; Advanced Startup will allow you to access the command prompt.

Choose Troubleshoot on the Advanced Home page.
Select Advanced Options.
Choose Command Prompt and follow the instructions that appear.
Issue this command: rename c:windowssystem32driversclasspnp.sys classpnp.old
Start Windows as usual.

6. Finally, if the previous ones do not work, Reinstall Windows, this action eliminates all the files that may be causing problems and installs a new, clean version of Windows without any third-party software.

The classpnp.sys BSOD error can disrupt critical tasks and indicates a potential issue with your system's Plug and Play functionality. Here's a structured approach to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:

System File Repair:

Initiate an elevated Command Prompt session. (Right-click Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator").

Execute the sfc /scannow command. This built-in System File Checker will scan for and attempt to repair any corrupted system files, including the classpnp.sys driver.

Device Driver Management:

Outdated or incompatible device drivers can trigger BSODs. Update all device drivers, particularly for recently installed hardware. You can achieve this through two methods:

Device Manager: Access Device Manager through the Start menu search or Control Panel. Systematically update drivers for all listed devices, prioritizing those recently added.

Manufacturer Websites: Visit the website of your system or component manufacturers to download and install the latest driver updates directly.

Peripheral Device Isolation:

If the BSOD occurrence coincides with connecting a new peripheral device, disconnect it to isolate the issue. Rebooting your system can confirm if the peripheral or its driver is causing the conflict.

BIOS Update Evaluation:

An outdated BIOS might lead to compatibility issues. Consult your motherboard manufacturer's website to determine if a newer BIOS version is available for your system. Update the BIOS only if deemed necessary, following the manufacturer's instructions meticulously.

Hardware Integrity Verification:

In some instances, hardware malfunction, particularly RAM or hard drive failure, can trigger BSODs. Consider running hardware diagnostics tools provided by your system manufacturer. Alternatively, utilize the chkdsk /f /r command in Command Prompt to check your hard drive for errors and attempt repairs.

Additional Considerations:

If the BSOD persists after these steps, consider creating a system restore point before further troubleshooting. This allows you to revert to a previous functional state if necessary.

For complex troubleshooting or hardware concerns, consulting a qualified IT professional is recommended.

By systematically addressing these possible causes, you should be able to effectively resolve the classpnp.sys BSOD error and restore the stability of your Windows system.
