Avowed offers five difficulty options, catering to a range of players from story-focused adventurers to hardcore challenge seekers. This guide provides an overview of each difficulty setting and recommendations for choosing the right one for your playstyle.
Avowed: What Difficulty Should You Pick
Avowed Difficulty Options:
While Avowed's difficulty settings aren't as granular as some games, they still provide a decent level of choice:
- (Difficulty names not provided in the original text. This response assumes standard difficulty names like Easy, Normal, Hard, etc. Replace with the actual in-game names if different.)
- Easy: Designed for players primarily interested in the story and world of Eora. Combat is forgiving, allowing for a more relaxed experience.
- Normal: A balanced experience, offering a moderate challenge for players familiar with action RPGs.
- Hard: Presents a significant challenge, requiring strategic combat and careful character building. Suitable for experienced RPG players.
- Path of Damnation: The most challenging difficulty. Demands mastery of combat mechanics and optimized character builds. Intended for players seeking a true test of skill.
Changing Difficulty:
You can adjust the difficulty at any time in Avowed. Simply navigate to the Game tab within the Settings menu. The difficulty selector is located at the top of this screen.
Difficulty Impacts:
The primary difference between difficulty settings is the impact on enemy health and damage. As you increase the difficulty, enemies become more resilient and deal significantly more damage.
Gear and character builds become increasingly important at higher difficulties. On Normal and below, you can generally get by with less optimized equipment. However, on Hard and Path of Damnation, having gear that matches or exceeds the enemy's level is crucial for survival.
Difficulty Recommendations:
-
New to the Genre: If you are new to action RPGs, start on a difficulty below Normal (e.g., Easy). This will allow you to learn the game mechanics and explore the world without being overwhelmed by challenging combat.
-
Experienced RPG Player (First Playthrough): For experienced RPG players on their first Avowed playthrough, Hard difficulty is recommended. It provides a good balance of challenge and opportunity to experiment with different playstyles.
-
Hardcore Challenge Seeker: Path of Damnation is reserved for players looking for a true test of their skills. Be prepared for a brutal and unforgiving experience.
Achievement Note:
There is an achievement for completing the game on Path of Damnation without changing the difficulty.
