How to Fix Laptop touchpad not working properly while charging

Some find that when they attach the charger to a Windows laptop, the touchpad does not work properly. Sometimes the pointer or cursor stops working, the mouse does some erratic movement, etc. Whereas the battery mode and the absence of the charger do nothing to the functionality of the laptop's touchpad. Some can't use the laptop's touchpad when the charger is connected to it, but have no issue when using the USB mouse.

Proceed with the remedies below if you have tried the most basic troubleshooting steps—such as replugging the charger again and again, cleaning the port, trying a different charger, etc.—and nothing worked.

Touchpad malfunctioning while charging

To fix a malfunctioning touchpad while charging your Windows laptop, follow these steps:

Place the power adapter in a cool, dry area.

Pull out all the electronics from the wall socket

Check the output voltage of the charger used with the laptop.

Touchpad needs to be enabled.

Check charging port in the laptop.

Visit the authorized service clinic

All of the below corrections should be checked.

1.The adapter of the laptop must be kept in an area that has good insulation.

Some of them have responded that the problem had been resolved with this simple solution. In order to avoid problems with electric earthing or grounding system, while charging your laptop always keep the power adapter or laptop charger above the floor. Never leave a power adapter alone; a wooden table, something made of plastic or rubber, pane of glass, etc. are all good insulators. Check that the problem has gone away using the fix.

2. Pull all other electronics from the wall outlet.

This solution worked for one customer with the same problem, and then helped other customers too. When connecting to an outlet or multi-outlet socket, watch out for electromagnetic interference due to ground interference by other devices inserted into the same outlet. Regarding a fix for this problem, while charging the laptop, unplug other devices from those outlets-the ground loop will be taken away.

Also, make sure there is no spark or voltage fluctuation, and the wall socket or outlet you are using is not broken or loose. Otherwise, get an electrician to repair it or replace the wall plug.

3. Check the Voltage Output of Your Laptop Charger

Another possible reason your laptop's touchpad does not work upon plugging in might be incorrect voltage supply. To be sure, flip the charger or power adapter over and check the voltage output on the label. Then hook up a voltmeter or multimeter to the charger and take the voltage reading. Take the voltage reading of the laptop charger and compare it against the reading of the output. Assuming the readings will be the same, then the adaptor should be OK to use. Otherwise you may have to replace the power adapter.

Further, the charger or adapter you use should be original and it should be in proper condition; that is to say, the wires are not exposed. Shabby cables and chargers are hazardous, but sometimes these are nonetheless sold. A low-quality charger may present problems immediately or after some time. Therefore, whether a laptop or any other electrical device, we should always use an original one.

4. Turn the touchpad back on.

Maybe the touchpad device has gone haywire. Re-enabling it would solve the problem. For that you can open the Settings app, Control Panel, Device Manager or any other option to disable the touchpad on your Windows 11/10 PC. Then enable it by using the same option that you have used.

5. Update your touchpad drivers or install the most recent ones.

Outdated device drivers may cause lower performance, device instability, and other issues. In that case, your Windows 11 or 10 PC needs updated touchpad drivers. Launch the Settings app and click on Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates. See if there is an update available for the touchpad driver. Click on the Download and install button to update.

Otherwise, you could update the latest touchpad drivers for your laptop from the official website. Just go to the Support page, then go to Drivers & Downloads, now download the touchpad drivers. Once you have entered the serial number and some other information, you can install them on your PC.

6. Keep the charging port of your laptop free

Since another client also had the same problem, it is also very possible that an issue may be with the laptop charging connector. Such an issue may be caused, for example, by a loose or broken charging port, or when an input jack-a round pin used by some laptop models-is bent or pushed back inside a laptop. The best you can do in this regard is replace the laptop charging port or have a professional do it for you.

7. Visit the official service facility.

If all of the above doesn't work, then the official service center is the place to be. The expert will most probably conduct most of the checks mentioned above and search for problems such as problems in the hardware to get your problem fixed. Additionally, they will also be able to inform you about what kinds of repairs come under the guarantee and which parts don't.
