To learn how to fix the problem of audio not working after a BIOS update, here is a complete guide that will help you.

A BIOS update will generally help your computer run more reliably and also support more hardware. However, issues may pop up even after the BIOS update. Several users have reported that the sound stops working after the BIOS update. If the audio is still not working in Windows 11 or 10 after a BIOS update, you can use the solutions described below.

Even after BIOS update, it is still not producing any sound.

If your Windows 11/10 computer's audio is still malfunctioning even after a BIOS update, then here are some fixes that you should look at:

Hard reset the device.

Run Audio Repair

Restore Version of Audio Player

Reinstall the audio driver setup

Switch off powers of the computer

For HP laptops: run a system recovery

Factory Reset or Fresh Installation of Windows.

Now, all these suggestions are elaborated one by one in detail:

1. hard factory reset

First try whether a hard reset solves the problem on your computer or laptop. For this, follow these steps:

Your computer needs to be fully powered off.

To shut down a computer or remove a laptop's charger, remove the power cord.

Now take away the battery unit that has been attached to your laptop.

Press the power button for no more than 30 seconds.

Turn your computer back on once you've reattached the power cord.

Check now if the issue has been fixed or not.

2. run the audio troubleshooter

If your computer running Windows detects an issue with the sound, you can do it automatically using the Audio Troubleshooter. Run the Audio Troubleshooter and see whether that resolves the problem.

3. roll back the audio driver

You can use the Roll Back in Windows feature to return a device driver to a previous version. The Roll Back Driver option is particularly helpful when issues start happening with a device driver after updating a driver.

If your computer has saved an earlier version of the audio driver using the Roll Back Driver option, then you can reinstall that driver. To reinstall the driver using the Roll Back Driver option, follow the steps below:

Go to the Device Manager.

You need to extend the section that's responsible for the audio, video, and gaming controllers.

You need to find your audio driver and right-click on it. Then select Properties.

Under the menu option Driver, select "Roll Back Driver."

Go through the prompts and bring your audio driver back to its previous version.

In case Windows does not keep the earlier versions of your Audio Driver, then you won't be able to view the Roll Back Driver button.

4. Reinstall Sound Driver

In case any of the above does not work, the problem may resolve by reinstalling the audio driver. Steps to restore the audio driver are as follows:

Go to Device Manager.

You need to click on the section for the audio, video, and gaming controllers to expand it.

Right-click on the Audio driver and choose "Uninstall device."

Reinstallation of the removed driver may ask you to restart your computer or run a diagnostic for hardware changes.

If that does not happen, install the most recent audio driver available on the website of your particular device manufacturer.

5. BIOS Reset

Thirdly, do a restore of your BIOS to default or factory settings. Congratulations if this solves the problem. Before you begin with BIOS reset to factory settings, take note of all parameters you ever changed on the BIOS. This way, you can simply change them again after your BIOS's reset.

6. Restore the System (on HP PCs)

Those using HP computers can do this by running System Recovery. To get this done, one has to go into the Windows Recovery Environment first. The quickest way of accessing WinRE is by pressing and holding the Shift key while restarting your PC.

Since you will be booting into Windows Recovery Environment and this will erase everything on your hard drive, you must first back up your data to an external drive before doing anything. Go into Windows Recovery Environment, and once there, click on Troubleshoot.

Click Next after selecting Recover without backing up your stuff. Click Continue to restart your computer after the recovery is complete.

7. Reinstall Windows on your computer or restore it to factory settings.

If all else fails, you can always clean everything off and restore your computer to its factory settings. You will want to make sure that file deletion does not occur when going through the factory reset process; click the option to Keep my files when resetting your PC. But just in case, make sure you back up your data before moving forward.

If it doesn't work, then you can try clean reinstalling Windows. By now, this should be gone.

We hope this has been helpful in trying to sort out the problem of your audio not working; good luck.
